Nairobi to Amboseli – Afternoon Game Drive

Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi, heading southeast through the scenic Athi plains toward Amboseli National Park. The journey takes approximately 4–5 hours by road, offering a changing landscape as you leave the city behind and approach the iconic views of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.

Upon arrival at your lodge or camp, you’ll check in and enjoy a leisurely lunch. After some time to relax, your afternoon game drive begins. Amboseli is renowned for its large herds of elephants and excellent views of Africa’s tallest mountain. As you explore the park, you may spot giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, lions, cheetahs, and a variety of bird species, especially around the park’s marshy swamps and open plains. As the sun sets, casting a golden glow over the landscape, you’ll return to your lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Explore Amboseli with game drives

The second day is devoted entirely to exploring Amboseli on a full-day game drive. After an early breakfast, you’ll head out with your packed picnic lunch for a full day of wildlife viewing inside the park. This extended game drive allows you to cover a wider area and spend unhurried time observing animal behaviors and interactions in their natural habitat. In the cool morning hours, predators such as lions and cheetahs are often active, while herds of elephants move gracefully across the dusty plains. You’ll stop for lunch at a scenic spot within the park, perhaps near one of the swamps that attract hippos and numerous bird species. In the afternoon, you’ll continue exploring, with excellent chances of photographing wildlife against the dramatic silhouette of Mount Kilimanjaro. By late afternoon, you’ll return to your lodge to relax, enjoy dinner, and recount the day’s memorable encounters under the African night sky.

Amboseli to Nairobi – Return Journey

On the final day, you’ll rise early for one last game drive to catch Amboseli’s wildlife in the soft morning light, often the best time for clear views of Mount Kilimanjaro. After breakfast, check out and depart for Nairobi arriving in the afternoon.
