Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve

Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi, heading southwest toward the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. The journey takes you through the picturesque Great Rift Valley, with brief stops for scenic views and refreshments. You’ll continue through the rural highlands and arrive at your lodge or tented camp in time for lunch.

After settling in and enjoying your meal, you’ll head out on your first afternoon game drive in the reserve. As the golden sun casts its light over the savannah, you’ll begin spotting a variety of wildlife including elephants, giraffes, antelopes, and possibly predators like lions or cheetahs on the prowl. The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay at your lodge or camp.

Explore Masai Mara

After an early breakfast, you’ll spend the full day exploring the expansive plains of the Masai Mara, home to one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. Your guide will take you on both morning and afternoon game drives, with a break for lunch at the lodge or a picnic in the bush.

This is the best opportunity to search for the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino – as well as hippos and crocodiles near the Mara River. During the Great Migration season (typically July to October), you may witness dramatic crossings as massive herds of wildebeest and zebra move in search of greener pastures. Return to the camp in the late afternoon to relax, followed by dinner and overnight under the stars.

Masai Mara to Nairobi

After breakfast at the lodge, check out and begin your journey back to Nairobi, retracing your route through the Rift Valley.

You’ll arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon or early evening, marking the end of a memorable safari. Drop-off will be at your hotel or at the airport, depending on your travel plans.
