Serengeti National Park is well known for a couple of reasons: the number of resident animals, including the Big Five, named after the five most prized trophies hunters took. Further, it is believed to hold the largest population of lions in Africa due to the abundance of prey in the area. More than 3000 lions live in this ecosystem. The African elephant roams the area in great numbers.
