The park covers an area of over 30,000 square kilometres. Nyerere is, after all, home to one of the biggest lion populations in Africa. Lion, elephant, zebra, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, buffalo, wildebeest—you’re almost guaranteed to see plenty of these. It’s also a good place to see African wild dogs and leopards, but these are harder to find. Wherever you look, the backdrop to all these animals is always beautiful. The rocky hills rise over parts of the reserve, the Rufiji. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Mloka Safari Lodge or Camp.
