Arusha to Mount Ol'doinyo Lengai & Lake Natron

Ol Doinyo Lengai is an active volcano in Tanzania. It consists of a volcanic cone with two craters, the northern of which has erupted during historical time. Uniquely for volcanoes on Earth, it has erupted natrocarbonatite, an unusual, cold and highly fluid type of magma and this one lastly Eruptions have been recorded from 1880 to 1967. The volcano has more than one active centre and most of the recent eruptions were from its northern crater recorded in Lengai Small lava flows in the summit crater during Sept 2020 - Feb 2021. Subsidiary cones extend out from the centre & down its sides
Lengai famously known as the Mountain of God as in Maasai group language, Maa Language. Its preferable doing 3Day 2Night trip to Oldonyo Lengai Trekking that combines Game Drive at Tarangire Park as to experience safari too on the first day and hiking activities around Lake Natron to see flamingos, Hot springs and waterfalls then in the midnight of the second day of this trip it will combine Lengai Trek.

The Oldoinyo Lengai Night Summit Trekking Sample Itinerary

From 11:30pm wakeup, go to mess area for coffee & snacks before driving to the base of Lengai
1am arrive at the base of Lengai and start your ascent
6am you are at the top of Lengai
6:30am start your descent
12pm arrive at the base of Lengai, drive back to Lake Natron Camp
1pm arrive at Lake Natron Camp greeted by a cold face towel and fresh cold drink
1:30pm have lunch, relax by the pool, before starting drive back to Arusha
Please note these timings are estimations. For some people it may take longer & for some a lot quicker, all will depend on your pace on that night to the summit and it will depend on the weather too plus you’re trekking experiences as well
So after the trek it will be lunch and time to rest a bit before starting driving back to Arusha for drop off followed by transfer to back to Arusha for overnight at your own designated hotel which a drop-off will mark the end of the trip and we will say goodbye to each other while hoping to serve each other again in the future.
