Coastal Departure – Journey to Tsavo East National Park
Your safari adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your coastal hotel. You’ll drive inland along the Mombasa–Nairobi highway as the landscape shifts from tropical coast to open savannah. Upon entering Tsavo East National Park, Kenya’s oldest and one of its largest, the red dust and wide-open plains greet you. As you begin your game drive en route to the lodge, keep an eye out for the famous red elephants of Tsavo, as well as lions, buffaloes, giraffes, and ostriches.
Arriving at your lodge or camp in time for lunch, you’ll enjoy a short rest before heading out for an afternoon game drive. This time of day offers excellent light for photography and a chance to see wildlife gather near waterholes. As the sun sets over the wilderness, you’ll return to your lodge for dinner and your first night in the bush.

Tsavo East to Amboseli National Park via Scenic Drive
After an early breakfast, you’ll exit Tsavo East and drive northwest toward Amboseli National Park, traveling through a mix of rural towns and wilderness. You’ll arrive in Amboseli by midday, where Mount Kilimanjaro—if the skies are clear—greets you with its snow-capped peak towering above the plains. After lunch at your lodge, you’ll rest briefly before heading out for an afternoon game drive.
Amboseli is world-renowned for its large elephant herds, often seen walking in single file across the plains, with Kilimanjaro rising majestically in the background. You may also spot lions, cheetahs, zebras, wildebeest, and a rich variety of birdlife. As the golden hour light illuminates the park’s wetlands and dust trails, you’ll return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Morning in Amboseli – Transfer to Tsavo West National Park
Wake up early for a sunrise game drive, one of the best times to witness wildlife activity and clear views of Kilimanjaro before clouds roll in. After returning for breakfast, you'll check out and begin the scenic drive to Tsavo West National Park, entering through the Chyulu Gate.
Tsavo West offers a dramatic contrast to Amboseli — with lava flows, rocky hills, and dense bushland providing a home to leopards, elephants, kudu, and other elusive wildlife. You’ll stop at Mzima Springs, a crystal-clear oasis fed by underground water from Kilimanjaro. Here, you can walk along a nature trail and view hippos and crocodiles through an underwater viewing window.
Arrive at your lodge nestled in the park’s hilly terrain, enjoy a relaxed afternoon, and take an evening game drive if time allows. Dinner and overnight will be at a lodge or camp inside Tsavo West.
