Day 1
Nairobi to Samburu National Park
Nairobi to Samburu National Park
Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi, heading north through central Kenya. As you leave the city behind, the landscape gradually transforms, and you may catch glimpses of Mount Kenya’s snow-capped peaks in the distance. After passing through towns and local farmlands, you’ll descend into the semi-arid region of Samburu, known for its dramatic scenery and unique wildlife.
You’ll arrive at your lodge or tented camp in time for lunch and some relaxation. Later in the afternoon, you’ll head out on your first game drive in Samburu National Reserve. Unlike the southern parks, Samburu offers the chance to see rare species like the Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, and gerenuk—collectively known as the “Samburu Special Five.” The Ewaso Nyiro River runs through the reserve, attracting a wide array of wildlife, especially during the dry season. After the game drive, return to the lodge for dinner and your first night in the wild.

You’ll arrive at the Aberdare Country Club in time for lunch, where you’ll check in for your onward transfer to one of the famous tree lodges inside the park (such as The Ark or Treetops), where wildlife comes to you.
In the afternoon, you’ll be transferred into the forested heart of Aberdare, where your lodge overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick that attracts elephants, buffaloes, hyenas, and sometimes leopards at night. This unique experience offers exceptional nighttime game viewing right from the comfort of the lodge. Back to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
