Transfer to Andasibe

After an early breakfast, your guide will drive you east to Andasibe, a breathtaking rainforest destination approximately five hours from the capital. This lush region is home to two protected areas: the Perinet Special Reserve and Mantadia National Park. Perinet is renowned for its population of Indri lemurs—the largest living lemur species.

The journey to Andasibe provides a fascinating glimpse into rural Madagascar, with scenic views of rice paddies, traditional red-brick houses, and roadside stalls.

On arrival, check in to your hotel and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, visit a private reserve managed by the local NGO Mitsinjo. This inspiring organisation leads efforts in reforestation, environmental education, and conservation awareness, and it also operates Madagascar’s first amphibian captive-breeding facility. During your visit, you’ll encounter an impressive diversity of wildlife and have the opportunity to plant an indigenous tree species along the reforestation trail.

Exploring Mantadia National Park

After breakfast, set off for Mantadia National Park, a scenic drive, with a picnic lunch packed for the day. This pristine rainforest is home to an impressive array of lemur species, including the iconic Indri indri, diademed sifaka, grey bamboo lemur, red-bellied lemur, and white ruffed lemur. While the trails here can be a bit more challenging than those in Perinet, the rewards are exceptional—the forest is taller and far less frequented by visitors.
The park is a treasure trove for naturalists, offering the chance to encounter rare and elusive species of mammals, reptiles, and birds in a truly wild setting.

Have a scenic picnic lunch near the Rianasoa Waterfall before hiking back through the forest. Later this evening, from the lodge set out on a guided night walk in the forest surrounding the reserve. With the help of a local expert, you'll search for nocturnal lemurs, including mouse lemurs, white-footed sportive lemurs, fat-tailed dwarf lemurs, and the woolly lemur.

After breakfast, set off with a local guide to explore Perinet Reserve (also known as Analamazaotra), renowned for its population of Indri indri. With its black and white colouring, barely-there tail, and wide-eyed, teddy bear-like face, the Indri is Madagascar’s largest lemur and one of the few primates on Earth that cannot survive in captivity.

As you walk through the lush forest trails, keep an eye out for up to 11 other lemur species that inhabit the reserve, including grey bamboo lemurs, common brown lemurs, diademed sifakas, and the striking black and white ruffed lemur.

Bird enthusiasts will be thrilled by the chance to spot some of Madagascar’s endemic avian gems such as the velvet asity, blue coua, and Nuthatch vanga. The reserve also shelters an extraordinary diversity of reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, along with a dazzling variety of orchids.
