Day 1

Welcome to Uganda

Welcome to Uganda

Breakfast briefing at your hotel. Load up and head into the wild.
Ferry, swamp, birds, equator, savannah, giraffe, zebra, buffalo - and sleep with hippos. Welcome to Uganda!
Depart for a short ferry crossing at Nakiwogo Village – without which, no road trip in Africa should be complete!
Boat trip in Mabamba Swamp with a specialist birding guide to meet some of the many indigenous birds of Uganda and a best chance to see the legendary Shoebill Stork.
Continue for lunch on the Equator. and on for a game drive into Lake Mburo National Park – great place to see zebra, giraffe, impala, African buffalo and – if lucky – leopard.
Camp down by the lake surrounded by chuckling hippos, with an introduction to our fabulous camp set up. Sundowner drinks, dinner menu of your choice, campfire banter under the stars, a decent hot shower and a good night’s sleep. This is no ordinary camping - after all, why come to Africa and sleep in a box!

Day 2

Lakes, Mountain and into the Jungle

Lakes, Mountain and into the Jungle

Early morning game drive through the heart of Lake Mburo and ascend to the Kazuma Lookout for breakfast with beautiful views over the lake and surroundings.
Depart Lake Mburo and head into the mountains and lakes of southwest Uganda. Late lunch by the mystical Lake Bunyonyi and explore the lakeside trail.
Continue on forest trails into the jungle. Mountain gorilla country: the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Day 3

Mountain Gorillas and Lions in Trees

Mountain Gorillas and Lions in Trees

Early morning transfer to the Buhoma Gorilla HQ for cultural dancing and briefing.
Depart for mountain trek through the jungle to find the mountain gorillas and spend an unforgettable hour with our close cousins.
Afternoon transfer to Ishasha Wildlife Reserve for a game drive to see if we can find the tree climbing lions. Head through the park to camp in the woods with a ranger, down by the hippo pools on the Ishasha River. Beautiful location with the now familiar RV set up. Freshen up with a hot shower, relax and unwind after dinner around the campfire and listen out for 'visitors'.

Day 4

Wildlife and Rift Valley Landscapes

Early morning game drive to depart Ishasha Game Reserve and transfer to the community boat dock for a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel. Great chance to see elephant and African buffalo on the banks, a multitude of bird and aquatic life.
Lunch at the boat dock. Afternoon drive up the rift escarpment for a trek at the twin crater lakes of Kichwamba. Spectacular scenery.
Late afternoon game safari in QE Kasenyi Sector. Ugandan kob, topi, water buck, elephants and African buffalo. Nile crocodiles down by the lake and a visit to the hunting grounds to find lion and perhaps leopard.

Early morning transfer to the Kyambura Gorge. Trek through the forest and along the Kyambura River to spend some time with the chimpanzees.
Depart for Murchison Falls National park. Cross back over the Equator and along the base of the Rwenzori Mountains - the fabled Mountains of the Moon with three of the highest peaks in Africa. Lunch stop at Fort Portal. Scenic drive through tea plantations, undulating hills and lakeside at Lake Albert to arrive at Murchison Falls National Park.
Camp at Red Chilli Restcamp. Chill out bar and restaurant with lodge fire overlooking the Nile Basin.

Day 6

The Nile and the Wilderness

The Nile and the Wilderness

Morning boat safari on the Nile to the base of the mighty Murchison Falls. Abundant wildlife on the banks and in the water. Elephant, giraffe, buffalo, Nile crocodiles, hippos – and birds everywhere.
Lunch at the famous Paraa Lodge overlooking the Nile. [Pay a little extra and chill out in the noon heat by the pool, perhaps a swim.]
Late afternoon, collect ranger and depart for afternoon and evening game safari to the Nile Delta beyond the hunting grounds. Great chance to see lion and perhaps leopard at work on the savannah plains.
Camp in the wild with a ranger overlooking Lake Albert. This is the middle of nowhere – but there’ll be a cool one in the fridge, perhaps a BBQ by the campfire and all the usual comforts of home including the hot shower and a folding toilet seat! Hippo, bird calls and other noises off.

Day 7

Walk with Rhinos

Walk with Rhinos

Break camp early for a dawn game drive to return to the hunting grounds and perhaps be the first to find the lions for the day.
Breakfast by the Nile and on to visit the top of Murchison Falls. Feel the power of the Nile squeezed through a 7-metre gap. Dry out with a morning coffee break. Depart Murchison Falls NP heading for Ziwa Wildlife Sanctuary.
Afternoon stroll with the white rhinos. Meet Obama and learn about the ambitious and inspirational programme to reintroduce the rhino into the wilds of Uganda.
Camp at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and, if lucky, see the rhinos promenade around the (reinforced) camp fence in the evening or early morning.

Depart the peace of Ziwa and journey into the chaos of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, built on 7 hills and home to 3 million people. Brief city tour to kings and commoners including the Kasubi Tombs - the burial ground of the Buganda kings - and the bustling Nakasero Market.
Relaxing lunch at Cantine Divino and return late afternoon to your choice of hotel in Entebbe.
