Day 1
Hotel to Mandara Hut
Hotel to Mandara Hut
After breakfast and briefing, drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (about 1 hour), register and commence the climb. Walk through the rainforest to the Mandara encampment. A side trip to Maundi Crater is a good way to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania and Kenya. In the rainforest, look for towering Eucalyptus trees, bird life, and Colobus monkeys.

Day 2
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
After breakfast in the morning, you'll start the hike through the heath and moorland to Horombo huts- (3720m). The distance is 12km, the altitude gained is 1020m and it takes 5-6 hours with a picnic lunch box. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at Horombo Huts. The walk is not very steep but it's a long walk.

Day 3
Acclimatization at Horombo Hut
Acclimatization at Horombo Hut
This will be an acclimatization day. After breakfast, you will walk to Mawenzi Hut (4600m) and Zebra Rocks for acclimatization for 3 hours and then return to Horombo Huts (3720m) for lunch then rest until the following day. It is a relaxing day at Horombo hut, only a short hike, and back to Horombo.

Day 4
Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

After breakfast, you'll begin the walk through the alpine desert to Kibo huts (4703m). The distance is 15km, the altitude gained is 983m and it takes 5 - 6hrs. The walk passes through a semi-desert landscape on the saddle. You'll have an early dinner to allow an early rest and get up at midnight for summit packing.

Day 5
Kibo Hut to Summit to Horombo Hut
Kibo Hut to Summit to Horombo Hut
At midnight, you'll have a hot drink and some cookies and then begin the walk to Uhuru Peak (5895m). The distance is 6km and it will take about 6-7 hours to reach the summit. You will decide with the guides on the best time to visit the crater rim as it can either be before going to the summit or after the summit. You'll enjoy taking photos of the peak and the sunrise if it is on a clear day and descend back to Kibo huts for about 3-4 hours for breakfast and a short rest before continuing to Horombo huts (3720m) where you will spend the last night on the mountain for dinner and an overnight stay. Day 6
Horombo Hut to Moshi
Horombo Hut to Moshi
After breakfast, a steady descent takes us down through moorland to the Mandara Hut. Continue descending through lush forest path to the National Park gate at Marangu. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).
A vehicle will be waiting for you at Marangu gate to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (about 1 hour).
