Hotel Pick-Up and Scenic Drive to Mount Meru

Your Mount Meru adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Moshi/Arusha. After meeting your mountain guide, you will enjoy a scenic drive through Arusha National Park, with chances to spot wildlife along the way. Upon arrival at Momella Gate, you will complete registration formalities before starting the hike. Accompanied by an armed ranger for safety, you will trek through lush forests rich with buffalo, giraffes, and monkeys.

Today’s hike leads you to Miriakamba Hut for your overnight stay, offering beautiful views and the first taste of the mountain’s magic.

Trek from Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

After breakfast at Miriakamba Hut, you will continue your ascent through lush forests and into the heather zone. The trail gradually becomes steeper as you climb closer to the crater rim, offering breathtaking views of Mount Meru’s stunning landscapes. Along the way, you may encounter wildlife such as colobus monkeys and various bird species. After about 3–4 hours of trekking, you will arrive at Saddle Hut, located at 3,570 meters.

In the afternoon, there is an optional short hike to Little Meru (3,820 meters) for acclimatization and spectacular sunset views (optional for an extra cost). Dinner and overnight stay at Saddle Hut.

Summit Attempt and Descent to Miriakamba Hut

Today is the most challenging and rewarding part of your Mount Meru trek. You will start the climb in the early hours before dawn, using headlamps to light the way. The trail ascends steeply to Rhino Point (3,800 meters) and then continues along a narrow ridge to Cobra Point (4,350 meters). With the sunrise lighting up Kilimanjaro in the distance, you will make the final push to Socialist Peak (4,566 meters), the summit of Mount Meru.

After taking in the breathtaking views, you will descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest, then continue the descent to Miriakamba Hut for overnight stay.

Final Descent and Return to Moshi/ Arusha

After breakfast at Miriakamba Hut, you will continue your descent through the beautiful lower forests of Mount Meru, enjoying the final views of wildlife and nature. Upon reaching Momella Gate, you will receive your summit certificates as a celebration of your achievement. You will then meet your driver for the transfer back to Arusha or Moshi.

You will be dropped off at your hotel. Optional activities, such as a short Arusha city or Moshi city tour or relaxing spa treatments, can be arranged for an extra cost.
