Drive to Rusizi National Park for boat cruise to see the most enriched wildlife; birds, crocodiles and hippos on River Rusizi. It offers you an excellent opportunity to see the magic meeting point between the Lake Tanganyika and Rusizi River, Bujumbura & DRC panoramic views. Then drive to Teza Tea Plantation through gorgeous landscapes. Known to be the first tea project created in Burundi & highly renowned for its high-quality tea production. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, Teza Tea farm welcomes you to unwind & recharge amidst the serenity of its surroundings. Our visit proceeds to Kibira National Park known to be the sacred forest, a verdant expanse nestled in the heart of Burundi; a true gem of Central Africa; a habitat for numerous plant and animal species. Bird’s Lake, also known as Rwihinda Lake, is a true paradise located in Kirundo Province, Burundi. This captivating lake is a haven for a diverse array of bird species, making it a must-visit destination for birdwatchers, nature enthusiasts, boat trips which offers you a great way to observe birds and other aquatic life up close. Whether you're a passionate birdwatcher or simply looking to unwind in a serene setting, Bird’s Lake offers an unforgettable experience. You will also visit hot springs water known to have therapeutic benefits, promoting relaxation and muscle recovery. Ku Mahoro hot springs water is located inside the Kibira National Park. You navigate the road crossing the park, an opportunity to get closer to green and natural sceneries.
As you drive to the springs, stop by Rwegura dam which is a hydroelectric power station which came into operation 1986 and offers a stunning view at the horizon.

This day is dedicated to cultural celebration, travelling from northern Burundi to the centre through stunning landscapes. Visit the Intore in Kirundo. Formerly known as the King’s warriors, Intore dancers represent strength, courage, unity and peace. Their traditional battle dance recalls warriors returning from battle, victorious or defeated. Continue to Gishora Drum Sanctuary in Gitega, Burundi’s political capital and the heart of the country’s royal drum tradition. Once Monarchial power, drums were played by Abatimbo, during royal enthronements, ceremonies, funerals and important national events. Discover the sacred drums, enjoy a captivating performance, visit the historical palace, meet local communities and shop for handmade souvenirs. Conclude with a visit to the Gitega National Museum, home to ethnographic and historical collections, including artefacts from the Burundian royal court and remnants of the country’s colonial heritage.

Day 4

On the fourth day of your Burundi expedition, enjoy breakfast before heading to Karera Waterfalls in Rutana, approximately a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Bujumbura. Covering 142 ha, these breathtaking falls feature five branches cascading across three levels. Declared a protected area in 1980, Karera Falls and Grotto are preserved for future generations. A beautiful hanging bridge offers a unique perspective of the falls, while hiking trails lead to scenic viewpoints. Enjoy a relaxing picnic surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of rushing water—an ideal blend of adventure, relaxation, and nature. Continue with a complementary visit to the Source of the Nile and Pyramid in Rutovu. At 6,671 km, the Nile is Africa’s longest river, flowing through six countries. Its southernmost spring in Burundi was discovered in 1934 by Burckhart Waldecker, adding a fascinating historical dimension to your journey.

Day 5

Bururi Natural reserve - Mawimbi beach

Bururi Natural reserve - Mawimbi beach

After having a short briefing on Bururi reserve early in the morning, then you set off for the chimps trekking. Bururi natural reserve is a major magnet for scientific research, particularly into biodiversity and climate change. Elevated at 1800 and 2300 meters, it offers a range of activities including chimps trekking( in both seasons but you are more likely to see them in summer season) hiking and research for scientists in addition to its hydrographic importance. Bururi forest remains a valuable economic, scientific and tourist resource. Like Kibira forest, Bururi natural reserve is a tropical mountain rainforest rich in species of flora and fauna, many of which are endemic to the albertine rift region.
After such a long nature walk trekking chimps, you will definitely need some time to relax and stretch out on the beach. Mawimbi beach is an ideal spot for you at the sunset enjoying the Tanganyika fresh air at the same time watching waves to embark on a deep meditation.
