Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater

The fertile volcanic soil of the Ngorongoro Crater supports a diverse range of habitats, making it possible to spot the Big Five in just a single day. Lake Makat, or Soda Lake as it is known in Maasai, lies within the park and acts as a sanctuary for a variety of species.

The park is also famous for the many Maasai families who live in traditional bomas—distinctive circular homes. It's a great destination for those keen to delve into human evolution, as the area has been extensively studied by the Leakey family.

As you explore the crater, you'll have the chance to encounter lions, buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, gazelles, jackals, foxes, wild dogs, and a variety of other ungulates. While elephants, cheetahs, leopards, and giraffes are rare around the crater rim, these animals can sometimes be seen elsewhere in the park.

In the evening, you will be transferred back to Arusha, where you'll be dropped off at your accommodation.
