Addis Ababa to Awash National Park

Your journey begins with a morning departure from Addis Ababa, heading southeast toward Awash National Park, approximately 230 km away. The drive takes you through the dramatic landscapes of the Ethiopian Great Rift Valley, passing volcanic mountains and valleys where lava formations line the roadside like freshly turned earth.

En route, we stop at the beautiful Lake Beseka, a birdwatcher’s paradise teeming with species such as the pink-winged pelican, African fish eagle, and saddle-billed stork. T
Upon arrival at Awash National Park, we embark on an afternoon game drive, offering chances to spot Beisa oryx, Soemmerring’s gazelle, greater and lesser kudu, warthog, olive and hamadryas baboons, and colobus monkeys. If luck is on our side, we may even catch a glimpse of some big cats. A visit to the dramatic Awash Falls adds to the day’s natural highlights.

Awash National Park – Aledeghi Wildlife Reserve – Doho Hot Springs

The day starts with an early morning game drive in the Aledeghi Wildlife Reserve, an open grassland habitat known for its diversity. Wildlife you may encounter includes Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, beisa oryx, Soemmerring’s gazelle, olive baboons, and waterbucks. Bird enthusiasts may be lucky enough to spot the kori bustard or the elusive Arabian bustard.

After the drive, we head to Doho Hot Springs, where the Doho Lodge overlooks a natural lake formed by geothermal activity. The rest of the afternoon is reserved for relaxation in the mineral-rich hot springs. Alternatively, you may opt for a visit to a nearby Afar village, offering insight into the lifestyle of this nomadic ethnic group.

Doho – Debre Zeit – Addis Ababa

Enjoy a leisurely morning at the lodge before beginning the return drive to Addis Ababa via Debre Zeit, now known as Bishoftu. Along the way, we stop to explore the area's stunning crater lakes, formed by ancient volcanic activity and surrounded by lush vegetation.

If time allows, you may also relax at one of the lakeside resorts for refreshments or lunch before continuing on to the capital. We expect to arrive in Addis Ababa in the late afternoon, concluding this scenic and memorable three-day adventure.
