Depart Nairobi early in the morning and drive through Kenya’s scenic highlands, descending into the dramatic northern landscape of Samburu. The drive offers glimpses of rural life, rolling hills, and changing vegetation. Arrive at Samburu National Reserve in time for lunch or an early afternoon game drive. You’ll get your first taste of Samburu’s rare wildlife—look out for the “Samburu Special Five”: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and the long-necked gerenuk. As the sun sets, retreat to the comfort of Samburu Sopa Lodge for dinner and your overnight stay, nestled within the reserve’s rugged terrain.

Spend the entire day exploring Samburu’s rich and untamed landscape. Morning and evening game drives give you excellent chances to witness predators such as lions and leopards, as well as large herds of elephants bathing along the Ewaso Nyiro River. Between game drives, relax at the lodge, taking in views of the surrounding hills and dry savannah. Dinner and overnight are once again at Samburu Sopa Lodge.

Day 3

Samburu National Reserve - Ol Pejeta Conservancy

After breakfast, check out and journey south to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, located on the plains of Laikipia beneath the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya. Arrive at Comfort Gardens Sweetwaters in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive in this renowned private conservancy. Ol Pejeta is home to the highest concentration of black rhinos in East Africa, as well as the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya. As the day ends, return to the lodge for a delicious dinner and overnight stay.
