Locals usually refer to it as Tana. In French colonial times, it was called Tananarive. There's no better place than the Palmarium Reserve to see a wide variety of Madagascar's most charismatic forest lemurs.

Around a dozen different lemur species have been introduced to this forested 50-hectare private reserve on the shore of Lake Ampitabe; it's a real delight to watch these charming creatures folic in the trees and scamper around the restaurant.

An added bonus is that the Palmarium Reserve can only be reached by boat, a trip that allows you to see something of the remote and atmospheric Pangalanes, the world's longest artificial canal.

After the cultural encounter, you will have an evening game drive.

One of our favorite places to look for wildlife in Kenya is the Masai Mara National Reserve. That's because the wildlife here is incredible, with big cats (lions, leopards and cheetahs) and elephants among the highlights. There's a very good chance you'll also see giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, hyenas, and, of course, impalas.

And bring your binoculars, because more than 500 species of birds have been recorded in the reserve. It's a place of beautiful savannah landscapes as well, with lots of acacia trees.
