The journey from Central Serengeti to Northern Serengeti is one of the most scenic and wildlife-rich routes in Tanzania. The drive covers approximately 150–200 km (5–6 hours), depending on road conditions, wildlife sightings, and stops for photography or game viewing. After early breakfast in Karatu the journey begins toward Naabi Hill Gate, which marks the boundary between Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After the gate, you enter rolling grasslands known as the Short Grass Plains, often dotted with herds of gazelle and wildebeest depending on the season. As you climb toward the Ngorongoro Highlands, the landscape transforms dramatically—cooler temperatures, lush forests, and sweeping views of the Great Rift Valley.
