Day 1

Kampala ziwa rhino sanctuary, top of the falls

Kampala ziwa rhino sanctuary, top of the falls

Depart Kampala early and travel north through Uganda’s countryside to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a guided white rhino tracking experience on foot. Accompanied by a specialist ranger, spend time observing these impressive animals in their natural habitat while learning about Uganda’s rhino conservation efforts.

Continuing north to Murchison Falls Np, you pass through the park gate and make your way to the Top of the Falls viewpoint for the late afternoon. The gorge at the falls is only eight metres wide, and the entirety of the Victoria Nile — one of the world's great rivers — is compressed through it in a display of raw hydraulic force that produces a permanent mist above the gorge and a roar that carries for some distance. The light in the late afternoon is excellent for photography.
You proceed to Heritage Safari Lodge for check-in, dinner, and overnight. The lodge is well positioned for the early morning game drive departure and offers comfortable.

Day 2

Game Drive & Nile Boat Cruise

Game Drive & Nile Boat Cruise

Depart at 6:00am for an early morning game drive on the northern bank of Murchison Falls Np, the park’s most rewarding wildlife-viewing area. In the cool morning hours, search for lions, elephants, buffalo, Nubian giraffes, Uganda kob, hartebeest, and other savannah wildlife. The river margins also offer excellent birdwatching opportunities, including sightings of herons, bee-eaters, skimmers, and the elusive shoebill stork.

After lunch, enjoy an afternoon boat cruise on the Victoria Nile toward the base of Murchison Falls. Along the riverbanks, observe large pods of hippos, crocodiles basking on sandbanks, elephants and buffalo at the water’s edge, and abundant birdlife throughout the journey. The cruise concludes with dramatic views of the falls plunging powerfully into the Nile below.

Depending on time and energy levels, an optional short evening game drive may be arranged before returning to Masindi Hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Chimpanzee Tracking in Budongo Forest & Return

Chimpanzee Tracking in Budongo Forest & Return

After breakfast, drive to Budongo Forest Reserve for a guided chimpanzee tracking experience. Following a briefing from Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, enter the forest in search of one of the habituated chimpanzee communities
When the chimpanzees are located your ranger will typically know their general area from overnight monitoring the quality of observation is consistently remarkable. You may find them feeding in the high canopy, working through the fruit of a ficus tree with focused efficiency. Juveniles play-chase through the undergrowth with the same energy and noise recognisable in young primates of any species. Occasionally a dominant male vocalises a long call that reverberates through the whole forest and raises the hairs on the back of your neck. Your ranger narrates throughout, identifying individuals by name and explaining the social dynamics you are observing.
After tracking, begin the return journey to Kampala with a lunch stop en route, arriving in the evening.
