As you descend into the crater at sunrise, you'll be immersed in a spectacular landscape of open grasslands, acacia forests, and freshwater lakes that support an extraordinary concentration of wildlife. The crater is home to over 25,000 large animals, including the Big Five—lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard—as well as wildebeest, zebra, cheetah, hyena, hippo, and countless bird species such as flamingos and crowned cranes. With its permanent water sources and abundant food supply, Ngorongoro offers unrivaled year-round game viewing opportunities.
