Your guide will meet you at your hotel or Kigali International Airport for a briefing before departing for Akagera National Park, Rwanda's only savannah park, located in the country's east. Enjoy a scenic drive through rolling hills and rural communities before arriving at the park in time for lunch (depending on your arrival time). In the afternoon, embark on a relaxing boat cruise on Lake Ihema, one of Akagera's largest lakes, where you'll encounter hippos, Nile crocodiles, and a variety of water birds including African fish eagles, kingfishers, herons, and cormorants. Later, head out for an evening game drive as wildlife becomes more active. Look out for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and, with some luck, lions and other predators. Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.
