Day 1

Nairobi to Samburu Game Reserve

Nairobi to Samburu Game Reserve

Distance: 320km
Non-game-viewing travel time from Nairobi: Approximately 5 to 6 hours drive, including stops for breaks.

After breakfast, we begin the journey to Samburu Game Reserve. We will drive through the central highlands of Kenya, viewing coffee, tea, sisal, and pineapple plantations, complete with a breathtaking view of Mount Kenya (if weather permits).

We will arrive in Samburu National Reserve in good time for hot lunch at the lodge, and thereafter an afternoon of game viewing. This sun-draped wildlife reserve offers a variety of unusual game, like the reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra. Also, look out for the leopards, cheetahs, lions, and buffalos among others.

The varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, found along the Ewaso Nyiro River, which is the source of life for the wildlife found here.

Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 2

Samburu Game Reserve

Samburu Game Reserve

This day is dedicated to game viewing at the Samburu Game Reserve with relaxing interludes.

Game viewing in this dry and scenic game reserve is concentrated along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. This is where most wildlife is found. The park is a haven for elephants, predators, and the famous Special Five. Also, if you are a nature and safari lover, then the reserve is a perfect destination for you to visit. One of the biggest and most exciting reasons to visit Samburu National Reserve is the quasi-endemic species that have adapted to the more arid and desert life, such as the gerenuk antelope - also known as the giraffe gazelle - which is a long-necked medium-sized antelope.

Also, look out for the "Samburu Special Five" - Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and beisa oryx.

The best time to view wildlife is early morning and late in the afternoon.

Mid-day and evening will be spent at the lodge.

Samburu Game Reserve to Lake Nakuru National Park

Samburu Game Reserve to Lake Nakuru National Park

Travel time is approximately 5 hours (250km), including brief stops where necessary.

Go on an early morning game and scenery-viewing drive as you exit Samburu and head to Lake Nakuru National Park. There will be a stop to view the Thompson's Falls at Nyahururu. Afterwards, proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park, a birdlife haven on the floor of the Great Rift Valley.

Due to some progressive natural factors like increasing water levels, the flamingo numbers have decreased, but the park remains stunning. Great rocky escarpments tower over acacia forests, waterfalls, and wooded hills. The small quantity of flamingos is accompanied by other birdlife, such as pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks, herons, and eagles. The scene here is bountiful, busy and full of color.

Lake Nakuru is also known for hosting some endangered but beautiful species. You’re sure to see the rare Rothschild’s giraffe, white rhino, and one of Kenya’s largest populations of black rhino.

Masai Mara National Reserve

Spend the whole day exploring the savannah grassland - the Masai Mara National Reserve. Today will be a game-viewing extravaganza!

Masai Mara remains the most exciting wildlife ecosystem in the savannah grassland. It is host to the highest and most varied concentration of wildlife compared to any other park in the region. The scenic appeal of the tree-studded savannah plains, the moderate climate, and the diversity of wild game species make it a one-stop shop for game-viewing activities.

We will traverse the park on a full day of unlimited game viewing, encountering the Big Five and more of the lesser game. We'll visit the Mara River, where we can watch hippos and crocodiles or the great migration (July – October).
