Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Akagera National Park and Evening Game Drive

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport (KGL), you will be met by a representative from Gorilla Explorers. They will assist with your luggage and provide a private transfer to Akagera National Park. The drive is approximately 2.5-3 hours, offering scenic views of the Rwandan countryside.

Embark on an evening game drive in Akagera National Park. This initial game drive will introduce you to the park's diverse wildlife, including giraffes, zebras, various antelope species, and potentially some of the smaller predators. Your experienced guide will provide insights into the park's ecosystem and the animals you encounter. Enjoy a sundowner at a scenic spot within the park, followed by dinner at your lodge.

Akagera Game Drives and Wildlife Viewing with Lake Ihema Boat Cruise

Start the day with an early morning game drive. This is often the best time to spot wildlife, as animals are most active during the cooler hours. Focus on areas known for lion and leopard sightings, as well as other predators like hyenas. Your guide will utilize their expertise to track animals and increase your chances of spotting the Big Five.

Return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you can choose to participate in another game drive or opt for a boat safari on Lake Ihema. The boat safari offers a unique perspective on the park's wildlife, allowing you to see hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species.

Enjoy a final evening game drive, focusing on nocturnal animals. Return to your lodge for dinner and a relaxing evening, reflecting on the day's wildlife encounters.

Air Balloon Safari and Departure

Wake up very early for the highlight of the safari: the air balloon ride over Akagera National Park. This offers a unique perspective of the park and its wildlife. The balloon ride typically lasts about an hour, depending on the weather conditions.

After the air balloon ride, enjoy a celebratory breakfast. You can then go on a final game drive or relax at the lodge.
Afternoon: Check out of your lodge/camp and begin your transfer back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for a city tour or souvenir shopping in Kigali before heading to Kigali International Airport (KGL) for your departure.
