Explore Kigali and Journey To Volcanoes National Park

Your safari begins with a sumptuous breakfast in Kigali, Rwanda’s bustling capital city. After meeting your driver-guide, you'll set off on a guided city tour that offers a deeper understanding of Rwanda’s past, present, and future.

Start with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a moving and thoughtfully curated site that honors the victims of the 1994 genocide. From there, explore local artisan markets, vibrant neighborhoods, and cultural landmarks.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before leaving the city. In the afternoon, begin a 2.5 to 3-hour scenic drive through breathtaking landscapes—rolling green hills, terraced farms, and small Rwandan villages, offering a glimpse into the rural way of life.

As you approach the park, the majestic Virunga Volcanoes come into view, rising dramatically from the earth and shrouded in mist—setting the tone for your upcoming gorilla trekking adventure. Arrive at the lodge and check-in. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Today morning after breakfast, you will be transferred from your lodge to the park headquarters for the days’ briefing about Gorilla trekking activity. It’s advisable to park your lunch, drinking water and hire porters as the time taken in the jungle is unpredictable.
After the briefing from the Park rangers, you will be allocated your Gorilla family and then head into the forest to search for the gentle jungle giants. The trek may take a few hours to a full day depending on the gorillas’ movements. Physical Fitness is highly recommended. Upon seeing the gorillas, you will be allowed to stay with them for one hour maximum (Take videos and Photographs). Then later return back to your Lodge for relaxation.

Alternatively, enjoy an late afternoon community walk to Red rock a local initiative that improves community livelihood through Environmental Conservation, Arts & Culture, Education, and Community Health & Security. Overnight at your Lodge.

Golden Monkey Tracking & Departure

Wake up to the fresh mountain air and enjoy a peaceful breakfast at your lodge, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Virunga Volcanoes. Thereafter, return to the park headquarters for a briefing on the morning activity—Golden Monkey tracking. These endangered primates are found only in the Volcanoes National Park and, unlike gorillas, are generally easier and quicker to locate, making the trek less demanding.

Upon arrival in Kigali, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant or make optional stops at local craft markets or galleries for souvenirs and last glimpses of Rwandan culture. Your guide will then transfer you to Kigali International Airport in time for your onward flight, or drop you off at your hotel if you’re extending your stay in Rwanda.
