Your trek begins at Marangu Gate (1,860m), where you register with park officials before entering the Kilimanjaro National Park. Upon arrival at Mandara Hut (2,720m), rest and enjoy the views as you prepare for higher altitudes. This first day sets a comfortable pace to aid acclimatization.

Day 2

Depart Mandara Hut and enter the heath and moorland zone, where the vegetation changes dramatically. The 6-7 hour trek is moderately challenging with some uphill sections. Along the way, admire giant lobelias and groundsels unique to Kilimanjaro. Horombo Hut (3,720m) offers basic but cozy shelter. Spend the afternoon resting and acclimatizing, essential for adjusting to thinner air and preparing for the summit push.

This rest day focuses on acclimatization. Take a short hike to Zebra Rocks or nearby ridges to gently expose your body to higher elevation. Enjoy spectacular views and photograph the unique alpine flora. Return to Horombo Hut for a nutritious meal and rest. This day helps reduce altitude sickness risks by allowing your body to adapt before the strenuous summit climb.

Day 4

Prepare for the toughest day as you hike from Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Kibo Hut (4,730m). The 5-6 hour trek traverses alpine desert with sparse vegetation and rocky terrain. The air thins considerably, making the ascent more strenuous. At Kibo Hut, you’ll have an early dinner before resting for the final summit attempt. Hydrate well and get adequate sleep to maximize your energy.

Day 5

You start your ascent around midnight, hiking through the crater rim to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m) at sunrise—a truly unforgettable experience. The climb is steep and demanding, requiring determination and slow, steady steps. After taking in panoramic views from Africa’s highest point, descend back to Kibo Hut for rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut and finally Mandara Hut, completing the trek. You’ll return to Marangu Gate and transfer to your lodge, celebrating your achievement.
