Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, an Acatree Tours representative will meet you and drive you to your accommodation at Tulia Hotel in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax and prepare for the adventure ahead.

The bustling town of Arusha is an essential part of safari life in northern Tanzania, serving as a hub for most travelers before they head into the wild. Take in the sights, sounds, and local culture as you get ready for your unforgettable safari experience.

Day 2

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, your Acatree Tours guide will collect you from your accommodation in Arusha. You will then drive to Tarangire National Park, approximately 2.5 hours along good tarmac roads. The park is named after the Tarangire River, also known as the “river of warthogs,” which provides a crucial water source for wildlife during the dry season.

Tarangire is famous for its elephant families, often seen gathered along the river, as well as giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests, followed closely by predators such as lions and leopards. Bird lovers will delight in spotting the highest variety of breeding bird species anywhere on the planet. Don’t miss the ancient baobab trees, some over a thousand years old.

Lunch will be served at a picnic site inside the park. After an exciting game drive, continue your journey to Karatu for overnight accommodation.

From karatu to Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will drive into the cooler highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Upon first seeing Ngorongoro Crater, it feels like a forgotten world. Hidden within its steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness of sweeping savannahs, acacia woodlands, and glistening lakes and swamps.

The crater was formed when a massive volcano exploded and collapsed 2–3 million years ago, covering an area of 260 km². It is renowned for its geological beauty and as a natural reserve that hosts some of Africa’s densest populations of large mammals. The crater also offers your best chance of spotting the endangered black rhino.

After exploring the crater, you will continue your journey through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and enter the southern Serengeti, ready for an afternoon of wildlife viewing.

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a small but diverse park located 120 km west of Arusha. This park is both compact and epic: it is one of the narrowest parks in Africa, yet the Great Rift Escarpment towers over Lake Manyara’s western boundary.

The park’s namesake, Lake Manyara, is a shallow salt lake that floods and dries with the seasons and supports thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other species. You may also spot baboons, elephants, and keep an eye out for the park’s famous tree-climbing lions.

Lunch will be served as a picnic inside the park. After your game drive, you will say farewell to your guide and be dropped off at a location of your choice, such as Arusha town, Kilimanjaro Airport, or Arusha Airport.
