Day 1

Your adventure begins with a hotel pickup in Arusha or Moshi, followed by a drive to Machame Gate (1,800m), the starting point of the trek. After completing registration formalities, you will begin hiking through the dense, lush rainforest. This section is full of giant fig trees, ferns, and moss-covered vines. With some luck, you might spot monkeys and exotic birds.
You’ll arrive at Machame Camp (3,000m) in the late afternoon, where your tents and a hot meal will be waiting.

Day 2
Machame Camp – Shira 2 Camp
Machame Camp – Shira 2 Camp
After breakfast, the trail climbs steadily, leaving the forest behind and entering the heather and moorland zone. You’ll cross ridges and valleys with increasingly stunning views of Kibo Peak and Shira Plateau. The day ends at Shira 2 Camp (3,840m), where you’ll rest and prepare for higher altitude trekking.

Day 3
Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

Today is an important acclimatization day. You’ll ascend to Lava Tower (4,630m), a dramatic volcanic rock formation. After lunch at Lava Tower, the trail descends into the Barranco Valley. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps your body adjust to the altitude. The day ends at Barranco Camp (3,960m), set in a spectacular valley below the towering Barranco Wall.

Day 4
Barranco Camp – Barafu Camp

After breakfast, climb the Barranco Wall, a thrilling but non-technical scramble with fantastic views. From the top, the trail continues across alpine desert landscapes, with fewer signs of vegetation as you gain altitude. Skipping Karanga (used on the 7-day route), you push directly to Barafu Camp (4,640m), your base camp before the summit attempt. The afternoon is for rest, an early dinner, and preparations for summit night.

Day 5
Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Around midnight, you’ll begin the toughest yet most rewarding part of the trek – the final ascent to the summit. Slowly but steadily, you climb through the darkness with your headlamp, reaching Stella Point (5,739m) at dawn. From here, it’s a short push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and taking photos at the summit, you’ll descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for the night.

Day 6

On your final day, enjoy a relaxed descent through the lush rainforest. The trail leads to Mweka Gate (1,640m), where you’ll receive your well-earned summit certificate. Your driver will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, marking the end of an unforgettable Kilimanjaro adventure.
