Day 2

Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

After enjoying breakfast, transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park with a stopover in the South Province. You will visit the King’s Palace Museum to learn more about the reconstruction of the traditional royal residence. The King’s Palace is a beautifully crafted thatched dwelling shaped like a beehive. You will have lunch en route and then transfer to the forest for dinner and an overnight stay at Nyungwe Forest Lodge.

Day 3

Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk adventure

After breakfast, you will meet at the park offices for a briefing about the forest and the primates. Enter the forest and search for the chimpanzees in the tree branches. As you look for the chimps, expect to spot other primates, such as the white-and-black colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, and red-tailed monkeys, as well as a variety of birds.

You will have lunch, and later enjoy the evening canopy walk, where you can view various bird species and the surrounding canopy. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4

Transfer to Lake Kivu

Enjoy a morning of relaxation and transfer to Kibuye for the Lake Kivu tour, which offers a fantastic exploration by visiting various islands, including Napoleon, Peace, Monkey, and Agricultural Islands, as well as other islands in the lake. After this wonderful experience, you will visit the Environmental Museum and return to your hotel for an evening stay.

Day 5

After breakfast at your lodge, board your safari van and transfer back to Gisenyi through the Kivu Belt road. Midway, you will stop for coffee and sightseeing. Upon your arrival at the shores of the lake, enjoy sunbathing, the white sand, and go swimming. In the evening, join a group of fishermen and enjoy a night-fishing experience. Then, return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.

Have breakfast and then board a safari vehicle to transfer to Volcanoes National Park, home to the mountain gorillas in the mist. The park has progressed to the point where more gorilla families have been introduced for tourism gorilla trekking, and each gorilla family is visited by eight clients per day.

Experience a village walk and visit the Ibyi’wacu cultural village. They perform cultural dances and Kinyarwanda songs. You will learn more about traditional weddings, medicine, and other aspects of Rwandan culture. Dinner and overnight are at the hotel.

Have breakfast, and then proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing about the mountain gorillas in the mist and the park itself. Then, enter the jungle to search for the mountain gorillas.

Meet the gorillas for about an hour while taking unforgettable photographs and videos. Return to the park offices for your gorilla trekking certificate. Return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 8

After breakfast, proceed on a leisurely drive to Akagera National Park, stopping for a break and lunch along the way. You will take a boat ride on Lake Ihema, with increased chances to spot crocodiles, hippos, and many bird species. Depending on the time, you can have a half-day game drive before heading to the hotel. The park is an extension of the Tanzanian plains, where you can spot a variety of wildlife species, including lions, elephants, buffaloes, and warthogs, among others. For a full-day game drive, you can do so the next day.

Explore the park from south to north, with full game drives to spot early-rising wildlife species and other animals, including lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs, waterbucks, and bushbucks.

Take your time and enjoy the jungle life. The picnic area inside the park is the ideal spot for capturing great souvenir photos and videos. The driver will return you to Kigali for drop-off at any location within Kigali.
