Formed over 2 million years ago when a massive volcano collapsed, the crater’s 600-meter-high walls now enclose a rich and self-contained ecosystem. Stretching over 19 kilometers, the crater features diverse habitats from lush acacia forests and swamps teeming with hippos to expansive open grasslands.

Home to more than 30,000 animals, the crater offers the chance to spot elephants, warthogs, flamingos, and the rare black rhino, along with all of Africa’s Big Cats. You may also see Maasai herders grazing their cattle alongside buffalo and wildebeest, an incredible blend of wildlife and culture.
