Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut

After registration at Marangu Gate, begin your trek through lush rainforest, home to colobus monkeys and exotic birds. Enjoy a gradual ascent on a well-maintained trail before reaching Mandara Hut. In the evening, take a short walk to Maundi Crater for panoramic views. Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut.

Acclimatization at Horombo Hut

At thi Day, Spend a valuable day acclimatizing to the altitude. Options include hiking to Zebra Rocks or Mawenzi Saddle for breathtaking views while preparing your body for higher elevations. Return to Horombo Hut for relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut

Distance: 9.5 km (6 miles)

Hiking Time: 6–7 hours

Today’s trek is a steady climb through alpine desert with sparse vegetation. Cross the “Last Water Point” before heading towards Kibo Hut, located at the base of the summit path. Early dinner and rest at Kibo Hut before your midnight summit attempt.

Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut

Distance: 22 km (14 miles)

Hiking Time: 10–15 hours

Habitat: Arctic / Moorland

Begin the challenging ascent at midnight on switchback trails, reaching Gilman’s Point (5,685m) at sunrise. Continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak—the Roof of Africa! After celebrations and photos, descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.
