Arrival in Arusha

Arrival in Arusha

Your adventure begins as you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). You will be warmly greeted by our representative from Herbivore African Expeditions safari company who will assist you and transfer you to your lodge in Arusha. This day is for you to settle in, relax, and acclimatize to the Tanzanian air after your long journey. Arusha is a bustling city nestled at the foot of Mount Meru, often called the "safari capital" of Tanzania.
A peaceful and comfortable haven located just outside the city center. The lodge typically features beautifully landscaped gardens, a swimming pool to relax by, and spacious rooms with modern amenities. It's the perfect place to unwind, perhaps enjoy a cool drink on your private balcony, and prepare for the exciting days ahead. Dinner will be at the lodge's restaurant.
The first taste of Tanzanian hospitality and the tranquil transition from travel mode to safari mode.

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After an early breakfast, you will meet your professional safari guide and embark on your journey. The drive to Tarangire National Park is scenic, passing through Maasai land and local villages. Upon entering the park, the landscape transforms into a classic African savannah dotted with ancient baobab trees and iconic acacias. Tarangire is famous for its massive herds of elephants, often seen in family groups of dozens. You'll also look for lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, and a huge variety of antelope. The Tarangire River is the lifeblood of the park, attracting incredible concentrations of wildlife, especially in the dry season.
This is your first taste of "glamping" (glamorous camping). The camp offers permanent luxury tents built on raised wooden platforms, each with a private veranda overlooking Lake Burunge. You'll enjoy en-suite bathrooms with hot running water and flush toilets, blending adventure with comfort.

Tarangire to Serengeti National Park

Enjoy a final morning game drive in Tarangire as you exit the park. Your journey then continues northwest towards the legendary Serengeti. You'll drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, stopping at a viewpoint for your first breathtaking look into the Ngorongoro Crater (you'll explore it later). The descent into the Serengeti plains is dramatic. The name "Serengeti" derives from the Maasai word "Siringet," meaning "endless plains," and you will immediately see why. You'll begin game viewing en-route to your camp, keeping an eye out for the Great Migration (location varies by season) and the resident predators that follow it.
A classic, mobile tented camp that offers an authentic and intimate safari experience. The camp is designed to bring you closer to nature without sacrificing comfort. The tents are spacious and well-equipped, and the communal area is perfect for sharing stories of the day's sightings under a blanket of incredible stars.

Full Game Drive in Serengeti National Park

Today is dedicated entirely to exploring the Serengeti. You will venture out for a full day of game driving with a packed lunch, allowing you to reach remote corners of the park. Alternatively, you may choose a morning and an afternoon drive with a relaxing break at camp during the heat of the day. Your guide will track the movements of the animals—searching for prides of lions lazing in the sun, cheetahs scanning the horizon for prey, leopards draped over acacia tree branches, and massive herds of wildebeest and zebra. The scale and raw beauty of the ecosystem are unparalleled.
Returning to the same camp feels as coming home. Enjoy a hot shower, a delicious dinner, and the unforgettable sounds of the Serengeti night.

After a final early morning game drive in the Serengeti (a fantastic time for predator activity), you begin your journey back towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive is scenic, and you'll often see animals along the way. You will ascend onto the forested rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, where the air becomes cooler and mistier. The afternoon is yours to relax and enjoy the stunning highland scenery. You may have the option to visit a local Maasai village (usually for an additional cost) to learn about their unique culture and traditions.
A beautiful and tranquil coffee plantation lodge. Tloma offers a different experience—a sense of rustic elegance and stunning views over the Great Rift Valley. Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

This is the grand finale. You descend very early down the steep crater wall into the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. The 600-meter descent reveals a microcosm of African wildlife, often described as the "Eden of Africa." Due to its enclosed nature, animals are resident year-round, making it one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five (including the highly endangered black rhino) in a single day. You'll enjoy a spectacular morning of game viewing on the crater floor, with a picnic lunch next to the hippo lake. After an unforgettable experience, you ascend the crater and begin your journey back to Arusha, where you will be dropped off either at a hotel or at Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home.
The breathtaking wildlife spectacle of the Ngorongoro Crater and the chance to see the rare black rhinoceros.
