Arrival & Safari in Nyerere National Park

Upon arrival at the Mtemere Airstrip, you will be met by a safari vehicle. Your adventure begins immediately with a game drive as you make your way to the lodge. You will get your first glimpse of Nyerere's diverse wildlife, which can include lions, wild dogs, and vast herds of buffalo. The drive to the lodge will serve as a wonderful introduction to the park's immense scale.
Nyerere National Park
Nyerere National Park is Africa's largest stand-alone national park, a pristine wilderness that was once part of the Selous Game Reserve. It is renowned for its high concentration of wild dogs and its diverse landscapes, including grassy plains, dense woodlands, and the life-giving Rufiji River. This park offers a more secluded and intimate safari experience.

Walking Safari & Game Drive

Today offers a unique combination of activities that sets Nyerere apart. You will begin with a guided walking safari, allowing you to experience the bush on foot. This provides a different perspective, focusing on the smaller flora, fauna, and tracks. Afterward, you will return to your vehicle for an extensive game drive, exploring the vast plains and riverbanks in search of big game.

Boat Safari & Game Drive

Another full day is dedicated to exploring the park in a different way. You will embark on a classic game drive to witness the park's abundant wildlife. In the afternoon, you will take a boat safari on the Rufiji River. This offers a tranquil and scenic way to view hippos, crocodiles, and a spectacular array of birdlife, all from the water. It provides an entirely new perspective on the park's ecosystem.
