Day 1
Day Trip Addis Ababa Tiya, Adadi Mariam & Melka Kunture
Morning departure from Addis Ababa, driving south along the Butajira Road through rural landscapes. First stop at Melka Kunture Prehistoric Site, where an open-air museum displays stone tools, fossils, and excavation sites that trace humankind’s early history. Continue to Adadi Mariam Rock-Hewn Church (12th–13th century), the only rock-carved church in southern Ethiopia, still an active place of worship. After lunch or picnic en route, head to the UNESCO-listed Tiya Archaeological Site, home to more than 40 mysterious engraved stelae marking ancient burial grounds. Wander among these silent stones, considered one of Ethiopia’s most important archaeological legacies. In the late afternoon, drive back to Addis Ababa, arriving by evening for hotel drop-off.
