Eswatini Map
Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) has Mozambique on its eastern border but is otherwise surrounded by South Africa. Hlane Royal National Park is in the northeast of Eswatini, about 105km/65mi eastof the capital Mbabane (1½ hours’ drive*) and 70km/43mi northeast of the second-largest city Manzini (30 minutes’ drive*).
Most people visit Hlane as part of a larger tour of South Africa, typically flying into O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) near Johannesburg.
If you’re on a tour of the region, you will probably get your rental car in Johannesburg. It’s about 450km/280mi from Johannesburg to Hlane, and the driving time is around 5 hours*.
You could also fly from Johannesburg to King Mswati III International Airport (SHO) in Sikhuphe, 50km/31mi east of Manzini, then hire a car and drive to Hlane. The 35km/22mi drive takes around 45 minutes*. You can fly from Johannesburg to Manzini/Sikhuphe with Airlink and Eswatini Air.
*Driving times are only a rough indication. You should always consider the possibility of significant delays.
