A bush experience on the borders of a bustling city

What makes this park so special is that it’s situated right on Nairobi’s city limits (in fact, the city is growing around the park) – and within a 20-minute drive from the airport, you can be watching rhinos graze contentedly or lions dozing under bushes.
The park is home to Kenya Wildlife Service’s headquarters; as a result the game is very well protected and Nairobi National Park has become something of sanctuary to rhinos, and there is a population of around 60. The park is mostly open grasslands, and you’re almost guaranteed of seeing hartebeest, zebra and giraffe. There is a healthy population of lions too, and one evening we watched a pride of about 15 – including many cubs – laze about as the sun set.
There are now two lodges within the park: The Emakoko, a very comfortable lodge set in small valley, with suites that look out through fever trees, and Nairobi Tented Camp, which is set in a beautiful forested ravine. If you’re travelling to Kenya for

Fun to have next to the city skyline. Feels like a zoo without fences. The guides are just average.

I love Nairobi N.P. and believe it's under-rated and generally under-valued. It's a shame it isn't given a higher priority by the Kenyan authorities, it could be so much better if there was greater control over the shambas which have been allowed to proliferate at the southern end of the game corridor, by which animals enter and leave the park.

Just next to the capital, Nairobi NP offers an astonishing high diversity of wildlife and might be the only place where you can capture a photo with giraffs and skyskratchers in the background.

It's OK and easily accessible, but proximity to Nairobi means that it can be busy. We have visited several times, but never when the animals are really plentiful; so this view might be jaundiced.

Very good place to take good wildlife pictures, the animals are usually tamed and you can approach them very easily. This is the only reason you should visit Nairobi National park

Great park in a city. Very short ride for Nairobi residents with good wildlife. No Elephants. You can view the city skyline from within the park
