Unfortunately because of global warming flamingos are no longer there...

Lots Of Birdlife & Rhinos

The wildlife seen within Nakuru NP complemented that seen in other Kenyan national parks. Didn't see any big cats or elephants, but plenty of zebra, giraffe, buffalo, baboons, warthogs, & a variety of antelopes. Highlights were the rhino sightings, adults and young.
Saw more birds (25+ species) here than elsewhere including plenty of flamingos, pelicans and other water birds (the lake level was very high such that several of the roads were underwater and impassable).
Definitely worth a visit.

A more lush area, animals are harder to see at times but very beautiful.

Very beautiful park I liked more than Masai Mara, at sunrise the landscape is stunning! Wildlife here is not as rich as Masai Mara but still worth a one day visit

Nice park, more beautiful then expected!

I'm not a fan of fenced in parks, they just feel like really nice zoos to me, but this one is very beautiful and does have lots of animals. I read online about the lack of flamingos, but I saw many of them on my visit, not the thousands you see in the icon photos, but enough to feel like the park had lots of them, so I wasn't disappointed. I'm not planning on going back anytime soon, the fence and town around the park killed this one for me, but if you can get past that, the park is stunningly beautiful and the wildlife viewing is top notch!

I wish we had spent more time in Lake Nakuru Reserve, it is actually very beautiful and we certainly saw rhinos (both withe and black ones!). However, we found far was less bird wildlife than expected (specially flamingoes, as there was only a small group of no more than 40 specimen.

Lake Nakuru - flamingo-less but still worth it
Overall rating

Lake Nakuru suffered flooding in 2012 which has had 2 negative effects; the flamingos have moved on to other rift valley lakes and many of the lakeside roads are now underwater. However new roads have been put in and there is now a large area of interesting flooded acacia forest teeming with birdlife. The park also has hard to see rhinos, scenic woodland, waterfalls, and cliff top vantage points over the lake. Good lodges on the hills overlooking the lake. worth visiting if combined with other national parks.

A magical and breath taking experience

Nakuru National Park is a stunning wildlife haven in the south of Nakuru in the Rift Valley. The park is wrapped around the tranquil soda lake and each area you explore offers a lake side view or a game filled plain. There is a wonderful variety of animals to see, sometimes the fun is in the search. Each corner or junction unfolds the unknown.

The best time to set off on your game drive is in the early morning or the early evening. The colour of the sunrise or sunset can dramatically change the appearance of some pockets in the park especially when you are lakeside.

One of the best aspects of Lake Nakuru is its size. It is completely manageable to get around if you chose to go without a guide and have your own transport. Its sign posts are crystal clear and you are guaranteed to see some magical sights. It offers the ideal safari experience for those who are wildlife fanatics, it is fairly priced and worth every penny.

We were there for only half a day and early next morning on our way out. The views are fantastic especially on the way and from the Sopa Lodge. Got to see a lot of wildlife like buffalos, gazelles, impalas, zebras & warthogs. We were so very lucky to see Rhinos, Giraffes and Lions and pigmy antelopes. We did not see different birds for which Lake Nakuru is famous.
The lodge was ok and not luxury as described but the views from the bedroom and dining area were fantastic. The staff were friendly and tried their level best to make the experience enjoyable. The food was not of high standard but was ok and the waitress failed to understand the order.
The weather was excellent and both guides made the experience memorable. Joe was very knowledgeable and knew where to go so that we can get to see the wildlife. He had the patience to wait for the animal to get closer so that we could get better photos of the Rhinos.
Our only regret was that we should have stayed one more day.
