Professional, the best guide with much knowledge
We had to change the date last minut and that was not a problem. We were picked-up at our home (we had to call for the driver that came a little bit too late) and driven to the train station and followed all the way to the train.
At the train station in Morogoro we were also picked-up and driven to the Lilac camp.
The Lilac camp seemed quite new, but we missed some commodities, but it is a camp.
The safari guide, name Nuhu, we had in the Mikumi national parc was the best. He loved his job and made the tour fantastic both days. We saw a lot of animals thanks to him!! We highly recommend to book him for the safari.

We had an absolutely AMAZING safari in Mikumi, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better guide than Nuhu! It was clear that Nuhu genuinely loves what he does. His knowledge of the wildlife, nature, and surroundings was incredible, and we learned so much throughout the trip. He spotted animals we would never have noticed ourselves, and it was fascinating to hear him share stories from his own experiences over the years.
We also want to give a big thank you to the company for being so understanding and flexible. Unfortunately, someone in our group got sick just one day before our safari was supposed to start, and they kindly allowed us to postpone the trip by a day on such short notice. We really appreciated this! The food during the game drive was very good, and it was possible to take more than one round to the buffe. The visit to the Massai camp was an experience I will never forget, I loved it.
Lastly I also want to mention that Nuhu was an excellent driver, making sure we were comfortable and felt completely safe throughout the safari.
Overall, we couldn’t be happier with our experience. We would 100% recommend our guide and this company to anyone planning a safari. If you get the chance to have Nuhu as your guide, you’re in the best hands! Thank you so much for an incredible experience! 🦁🐘❤️

An unforgettable Journey
An Unforgettable Private Safari Experience with Kihindo Tours and Safaris! 🐘❤️
We booked our 3-day, 2-night private Mikumi safari with Kihindo Tours and Safaris as part of our honeymoon, and it was truly an unforgettable experience! From the transportation to the accommodation, the safari itself, and all the wonderful people we met along the way, everything made this journey very special.
🚗 A long journey made easy by an amazing team
Our journey started with a car transfer from Jambiani to Stone Town, followed by a ferry from Stone Town to Dar es Salaam, a train from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro, and finally a car transfer from Morogoro train station to Lilac Camp near Mikumi National Park.
On our return, we followed the same route in reverse: a car from Lilac Camp to Morogoro train station, a train to Dar es Salaam, a ferry back to Stone Town, and finally a car transfer to Nungwi.
It was quite a long and tiring journey because of the hours spent travelling, but it was absolutely worth it!
What impressed us most was how well everything was organized. At every stage, a member of Kihindo’s team was there to welcome us, guide us to the next stop, and help us with our luggage. We never felt lost or abandoned, even with all the different transfers. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and professional.
Our safari itself was private, which made the experience even more special. We could enjoy the game drive at our own pace, ask questions, and make the most of our time exploring the park together.
If you are considering the same route, I definitely recommend this company. However, if you prefer a shorter journey, you can also ask them about flying from Zanzibar to Mikumi, as I believe they can arrange this option too.
🌿 Lilac Camp: A beautiful welcome in the heart of nature
When we arrived at Lilac Camp, the staff welcomed us with a traditional song and a refreshing pineapple and ginger welcome drink. It was such a lovely surprise! I wish I had been ready to record that moment because it was beautiful.
After welcoming us, the team explained the camp rules and showed us to our room. The accommodation was amazing: you get the feeling of being right in the forest while enjoying the comfort of a modern hotel room, with air conditioning and a private shower.
A special thank-you to the Maasai team members who looked after our safety, especially whenever we walked between our room, the restaurant, and the safari vehicle. Their presence made us feel safe and well cared for.
🛖 A wonderful cultural experience in the Maasai village
In the evening, we visited a Maasai village, and it was a wonderful cultural experience. They dressed my husband and me in traditional Maasai clothing, showed us their dances, and even invited us to participate! We also learned about their daily lives, traditions, and way of living.
We discovered a small handmade shop featuring beautiful crafts made by local women.
My little tip for future visitors: Bring some cash if you’d like to purchase handmade souvenirs and support the local women. We didn’t bring any with us and genuinely regretted it!
Also, if you’d like to make the children happy, you can bring a small pack of candies or individually wrapped sweets to share with them. We saw another family doing this, and the children were so happy with this little gesture. It was such a sweet moment! 🍬❤️
The food at Lilac Camp was also good, and we really enjoyed our stay.
🦁 An incredible private safari in Mikumi National Park
Safari day was finally here, and we were so excited! We left the camp at around 6:30 a.m. and entered Mikumi National Park at approximately 7:30 a.m.
We were incredibly lucky to spot elephants, lions, and buffalo early in our game drive. Seeing these magnificent animals in their natural habitat was an amazing experience!
A huge thank-you to David, our guide, and Owen, our driver, who were both fantastic! They were friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire safari enjoyable. David shared so much interesting information about the wildlife, while Owen made sure we had a great drive through the park.
During our game drive, we also saw monkeys, giraffes, wildebeest, warthogs (Pumba!), crocodiles, stunning birds, hippos, zebras, and many more incredible animals.
After lunch, we even continued our game drive in the hope of spotting a leopard. Unfortunately, we weren’t lucky enough to find one, but that just gives us another reason to return one day!
Having a private tour made the experience feel even more personal and allowed us to enjoy this special adventure together as a couple.
🚆 The return journey: Professionalism from beginning to end
After our safari, we returned to camp, rested, and enjoyed dinner before our journey back the following morning.
We had breakfast at around 5:50 a.m. and left at approximately 6:20 a.m. Despite the long journey back to Zanzibar, everything was well organized.
At every stage, someone from Kihindo’s team was there to assist us and make sure we knew where to go.
A special thank-you to our driver who took us between Morogoro train station and Lilac Camp, both on the way there and on the return journey. He was so thoughtful and even bought us snacks for the road, which we really appreciated!

Overall, we had an incredible experience with Kihindo Tours and Safaris. The organization, the friendly staff, the accommodation, the cultural visit, and our private safari made this a memorable part of our honeymoon.
The price was also very reasonable for everything included in our package and the number of transfers involved.

Best guide in the park
Easy booking, great communication and seamlessly organised. What really made this day safari from Zanzibar to Mikumi so special was our excellent guide Nuhu. His knowledge, passion and stories from his village were captivating and kept the teens engaged and off their phones. We booked for 4 of us and ended up with a private tour which was appreciated so we had space to move around to different viewing points.
Whilst other vehicles were speeding around the park getting unnecessarily close by breaking the rules to go off road Nuhu took his time to sit back, listen and watch so we could escape the crowds and soak up both the big and small animals. His driving was very safe and he looked after us and the truck unlike many who drive at speed over rocks and then broke down in the blazing heat.
We saw a huge array of animals and Nuhus Hakuna Matata attitude, friendliness and attention to detail just made this trip so enjoyable.
There were enough comfort breaks and the hot buffet lunch was simple but tasty with good selection of cold drinks.
Top tips: binoculars, fan for the hot stuffy plane, toilet paper and hand sanitiser, sensible shoes, shorts and shoulders covered, takeaway breakfast from your hotel, 1 bottle of water permitted to take on plane with small water provided on the aircraft
