More Than a Safari: A Journey Through Kenya
Our 8-day safari through the Masai Mara, Lake Naivasha, and Amboseli was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we entered the Masai Mara, I was deeply moved. Africa has something truly special—an energy that’s hard to describe—and seeing wild animals in their natural habitat felt like a dream come true.
During the trip, I alternated between the two safari vehicles, so I had the opportunity to spend time with both of our driver-guides, Nelson Simba and Collin Sembele. They were both friendly, professional and incredibly knowledgeable about the parks, wildlife and animal behavior. Simba was more comfortable speaking Spanish, but both of them were always happy to answer every question we asked.
Driving and guiding at the same time is clearly a demanding job. They have to concentrate on the road, search for wildlife, listen to the radio and check messages about new sightings, all while making sure their guests have the best possible experience. On some days we spent more than 12 hours in the vehicle, stopping only for a picnic lunch, and during the long road transfers they also had to deal with traffic, difficult roads and accumulated fatigue. It made me appreciate even more the effort, patience and dedication they put into their work every single day.
One thing that I particularly appreciated was the respect both guides showed towards the animals. At no point did I feel they were disturbing the wildlife just to get a better view. For me, this is essential because, after all, we are the visitors in their home, not the other way around.
Visiting a Maasai village was another highlight of the trip. Whenever I travel, I enjoy learning about the local culture, traditions and way of life, and it was a meaningful experience. Personally, I would also have enjoyed seeing more of everyday Kenyan life, perhaps by stopping in local towns rather than places mainly designed for tourists. However, I also understand the practical reasons behind the itinerary.
Overall, this safari exceeded my expectations. It was not only about seeing incredible wildlife, but also about experiencing the landscapes, the people and the unique atmosphere of Kenya. I will always remember this journey, and I am very grateful to Nelson Simba and Collin Sembele for helping make it so special.
Intelligent and so welcoming !
Absolutely. Here’s a warmer version that includes those details while keeping it relatively short:
I spent 7 unforgettable days on safari with Hassan, traveling completely solo, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better guide. As a solo female traveler, safety was my biggest concern, but Hassan made me feel comfortable, protected, and at ease from the very beginning. I trusted him completely, and that allowed me to fully enjoy every moment of the trip.
Hassan’s knowledge of the wildlife, animal behavior, and the parks was incredible. Every morning he explained what the day would look like, what we might see, and answered every question I had with patience and enthusiasm. He also checked in with me throughout the trip to make sure I was comfortable, having a good time, and had everything I needed.
He went above and beyond to make my experience special, whether it was making sure I had fresh watermelon, juice, or coffee, or stopping whenever I wanted more time to enjoy an animal. I even found myself asking to eat meals with him because I genuinely enjoyed our conversations—they became one of my favorite parts of the trip.
By the end of the seven days, I felt like I had not only experienced an incredible safari but had also made a true friend. If you’re lucky enough to have Hassan as your guide, you’re in the best hands. He is kind, professional, knowledgeable, thoughtful, and someone who genuinely cares about his guests. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

An unforgettable safari with an amazing guide and a wonderful travel agency!
Everything was well organized from the very beginning. Winnie was always quick to respond and patiently answered all my questions before the trip. Our guide, Robert, was fantastic—he had incredible eagle eyes and always got us to the best spots for wildlife viewing. He shared so much about the animals and gave us a deeper appreciation of Kenya. Highly recommend!

Reliable, well-organized safari operator with excellent guides and great value.
We had a great experience with Axis Africa Expedition & Safaris. The communication was clear, the organization was excellent, and the safari offered great value for money.
A special thank you to our driver, James Gichina, who made the trip even better. He was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and always made sure we had the best wildlife sightings while driving safely and making everyone feel comfortable.
We highly recommend Axis Africa Expedition & Safaris and would happily travel with them again.
A truly amazing safari with Axis Africa Safaria and Driver Daniel Sururu
After many weeks of deliberation and throughly reviewing multiple safari operators I finally decided to go with Axis Africa Safaris - this decision that was not taken lightly, but one I am very pleased to say I did not regret.
The service provided by Rita at Axis Africa Safaris was fantastic. She promptly responded to all of my emails, addressed all my questions and concerns, and arranged an amazing safari for myself and my family. And to top it all, their prices were incredibly competitive.
When deciding which accommodation to select Rita provided detailed information regarding hotel options split by budget. We finally decided on Ashnil Mara Camp, Sarova Lion Hill (Lake Nakuru) and Naivasha Swela Lodge.
Ashnil Mara Camp was amazing - the tents were huge and very comfortable. The service and food were fantastic! We all throughly enjoyed our 3 night stay and particularly appreciated the hot water bottles which were carefully placed into our beds every night! The food was also good at Sarova Lion Hill and Swela lodge, but the rooms at Sarova lodge were rather small and in need of an upgrade.
When arranging the safari I specifically requested a Masi guide, and we were lucky enough to be allocated Daniel Sururu. Daniel was our dedicated driver for the six days and he was fantastic. His knowledge of the parks and wildlife within it was exceptional! On Day 1 of the safari Daniel asked each of us what we wanted from the safari and he did his upmost to make sure our expectations were met. And I am pleased to say that they really were and more! This included seeing loins taking down a buffalo, the big 5, the beginning of the great migration and much, much more! My husband is a keen photographer and bird lover, and Daniel was super good at pointing out the many species of birds in the Mara and Lake Nakuru. And as luck would have it, Daniel was also a keen photographer and appreciated the importance of positioning and lighting, so he would do his best to put his car in the optimal position for my husband to take a photo.
As part of the safari we had arranged a 2 hour boat ride on Lake Naivasha to see the many hippos and bird life the lake has to offer. Unknown to us, Daniel called ahead of our visit to arrange for a specific guide who he knew was very knowledgable about birds. The boat trip was amazing, even for those of us who were not bird lovers. I would strongly encourage anyone who has the time to go and visit this area.
Overall, we could not ask for anything more from Daniel, we felt completely safe with him and all times and he was really a truly an amazing guide (and driver) and if were fortunate enough to come back to the Masi Mara I would not want any other guide!
Thank you to Axis Africa Safaris for arranging our amazing safari and to Daniel for making our trip fantastic and so unforgettable - you really were the star of our trip!
