Great safari, bad timing
I want to first say that our guide, Rodger, was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and helped us find all the ‘Big 5’ and many other beautiful animals. The accommodations were lovely- the campsite was great to connect with nature, and the hotel was comfortable and clean with tasty meals. The game drives were fantastic.
The reason I gave this safari a 3/5 is not the fault of the guide. On May 18th, the 3rd day of the safari, there were massive protests over gas prices all over Kenya, which turned into rioting, blocking roads and stopping cars. This is not the fault of Axis. The issue was the way the company handled the situation (this does not include Rodger- he was calm under pressure and kept us as safe as possible). Part of the issue here is that Axis combines travelers who are on different tours without clarifying it. There were people on the tour that were only there for 3 days, while others booked for 4 or more. This means that our third day involved bringing the people who had to go back to the office to a drop off point near Nairobi. This is where we got stranded for multiple hours with very little communication or assistance from the office. We spent the whole morning driving, leaving at 6 am, arriving midday and then staying in place. When asked about a refund of some sort for the day that really only included 2 hours of activity, we were told ‘well, day 3 is always a travel day’. The itinerary does not disclose that. They make it look as if there’s multiple activities that happen on day 3. On top of that, guests on our safari had to pay to change flights, without help from the office or clarification on what would happen to help them. Two of the people who were split from the group eventually to go to the airport were hit with a bag of rocks through the window of the car they were put in, leading to them being covered in glass. Again, this isn’t something the company can necessarily control, but the things they can control were handled poorly in my opinion.
Again, this would’ve been a great safari. The issues I had were partially the situation but mostly the office’s handling of it. Rodger was an excellent guide.
Rodger was extremely kind and professional
All the staff members were very kind and had great, reliable communication right from when we arrived at the office on the first day, to when we got dropped off at the airport at the end of our safari. Rodger, our tour guide was very good at driving through the difficult landscape, was always on time picking us up/dropping us off, and taught us so much about the animals we saw. He always drove fast and positioned us at the best spots so we could get great views of the animals. May was a great time to do the safari because it was not very busy in the nature park, and the weather was amazing. Food was good, they had carbohydrates, vegetables, meat, and vegetarian options at every meal. We stayed in tents which was definitely an unusual experience, but it was clean and cozy. It was very cool hearing all the animal noises at nighttime and the surrounding scenery was beautiful. I would definitely recommend this safari.
Very reliable, good driver and efficient
My daughter and I enjoyed our safari. Rodger was an excellent tour guide. He was personable and knowledgeable. I liked that he was a good, safe driver and also was able to get us to see all the animals we wanted to see and up close! The vehicle was in great condition and we had plenty of water available to us during the safari.
The safari was a good value. Our lodgings were basic but the people there were very friendly and accommodating. The food served at the camp was good and our picnic lunch was very good with many options to fulfill us.
I felt a bit like the tour of the Masai village was a bit of a performance. It was fine but also seemed like a money grab from the people there. Items for sale were expensive, but others on our tour were sold the same items by different people for much cheaper. I was disappointed with this part of the safari. It felt like they wanted us there only to give money. This is not the fault of axis Africa but I wanted to mention it.
Overall this was a trip to remember and I would definitely recommend it. So many times during the safari my daughter and I said we were so lucky for the tour driver and group we were with because everyone was so great.
Exceptional Safari Experience with Khalifa and Axis
Our 8‑day safari with Axis was an experience we’ll always remember. Khalifa, our guide, was the heart of the trip — warm, thoughtful, and deeply knowledgeable about every park we visited. He didn’t just drive us; he curated the journey, taking us to great local spots for food and shopping and adjusting plans based on what we wanted to see.
He paid close attention to our interests and recommended early starts so we could catch rare wildlife at the right moments. Those early mornings paid off with some incredible sightings. Axis delivered an outstanding safari, and Khalifa made it exceptional.

Trustworthy safari operator with rich experience, flexible schedules and warm full-round travel sup.
I highly recommend Axis Africa Expedition & Safaris to anyone planning a Kenya safari trip! Our tour guide Collin was incredibly warm, friendly and super dedicated. He picked us up early in the morning right at the airport on time. He is extremely experienced and skilled at spotting wild animals in the savannah. We were so lucky to witness amazing wildlife scenes including lions hunting prey, a whole family of African elephants, wildebeests, buffalos, leopards, hippos, hyenas, giraffes, crocodiles and many more stunning creatures.
Jacklyne from their office was always quick and patient to reply to all our questions before the trip, she gave us detailed information and solved all our doubts efficiently. They perfectly arranged a full and well-scheduled two-day safari in Masai Mara with extended game drive time, making every minute worthwhile.
Compared with many other travel agencies, their private safari tours are fairly priced with great value for money. The lodges they arranged were comfortable and nice with high cost performance, and the meals served there were delicious and plentiful.
The whole team is totally reliable and thoughtful throughout the whole journey. From pre-trip communication to on-site travel arrangement, everything was arranged smoothly and perfectly. We had an unforgettable and fantastic safari experience, and we will definitely choose Axis Africa again and recommend them to all our friends!
