OUR SAFARIS: 1.      Gorilla Trekking Safaris and Chimpanzee Tracking Safaris
Gorilla trekking in Uganda exists in Bwindi impenetrable and Mgahinga Gorilla national parks. In Rwanda, gorilla trekking takes place in Volcanoes national park, located in northern Rwanda.  Gorilla trekking is epic and a once in life time experience; walking in the misty, dense forests and eventually meeting the gentle giants is simply incredible and fulfilling.  Important to note is that one must possess a Gorilla trekking permit from UWA in Uganda or ORTPNin Rwanda before having chance to see the Giant Ape. This has to be booked well in advance given their limited availability.

Tracking Chimpanzees on the other hand brings you closer to mans’ closest relative’ who shares 98.7% of human DNA. You will have a great time as you watch them closely. The best place to go Chimpanzee tracking in Uganda is the famous Kibale National park. However one can also go chimp tracking in Queen Elizabeth national park at Kyambura Gorge, Kalinzu forest Central Forest reserve, Murchison Falls national park at Kaniyo Pabide and Tooro-Semliki Game reserve. In Rwanda Chimpanzee tracking happens in Nyungwe national park from either Cyamudongo or Uwinka sectors of nyungwe forest.

Note that for chimpanzee tracking in both Uganda and Rwanda, you will have to buy a chimpanzee tracking permit through your Tour operator and must be 12 years and above for you to participate Chimpanzee tracking.

2.       Wildlife & Game safaris
The wildlife safaris in Uganda and Rwanda take place in mainly the Savannah national parks. Wildlife safaris offer an opportunity to watch wild animals in their natural habitats which is quite different from the zoo experience. While on the wildlife tours you will enjoy opportunities of boat cruises and nature/Community walks as additives to game drives.  You will track the big five – Black Rhinoceros, Elephants, Lions, Buffaloes, and Leopards in addition to animals and reptiles.

Uganda possesses 10 national parks and 13 game reserves which make her the perfect choice for a wildlife tour. The Savannah parks include: Lake Mburo national park, Queen Elizabeth national park, Murchison Falls national park, and Kidepo Valley National Parks.  Akagera national park is the only Savannah Park with game drives and boat trip on Lake Ihema in Rwanda.

3.       Birding Safaris
Birding tours in Africa create an experience of wildlife, primate and culture viewing because most if not all birds share habitats with wildlife and primate, ‘’Forest’’. The birds are abundant and generally easy to see in their habitats in both protected and unprotected areas. Our guided bird watching tours are led by professional seasoned birding guides that will take you across the country traversing different bird habitats and diverse bird species. Bird lovers will certainly undersand when I say that birding Safaris in Uganda last couple of days or even weeks for one to fully explore the Birding glamour in the Pearl of Africa.

Uganda is home to over 1057 bird species (50% of Africa’s bird species) making it the biders’ choice. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was voted Africa’s number one birding spot and is home to 23 of the 24 Albertine Rift endemics found in Uganda whereas Murchison Falls National Park was voted number nine best birding spot in Africa by Africa Bird Club.

Rwanda on the other hand is home to over 750 bird species both in Akagera national park and Nyungwe forest making it yet another spot for birding.

4.      Culture Tours – Sustainable & Responsible Tourism
We provide the best Culture and Community tour with emphasis on responsible and sustainable tourism.  We Lead you interact with our communities, appreciate the culture of our people, our food, our music, our games and dances among other things. Uganda is home to over 56 tribes that speak about 56 local dialects / languages whereas Rwanda has only one tribal language but several differences in culture between the cultivators, hunter gatherers and the predominant cattle keepers. The tribes have quite different cultural practices, beliefs and food. Every tribe has very unique traditional foods or at least a distinct way of preparing a particular kind of food.

Community tours are closely tied to the livelihoods of people as lived daily in their communities. They help communities to directly benefit from tourism income and offer an excellent glimpse to travelers on the lives, customs and behavior of the local People. This encourages communities to actively get involved in the protection of wildlife and their habitat.  Activities involved in a community tours include: visiting a Home-stay, local school, Traditional healer, women’s groups and Farmlands.  Proceeds for such visits go a long way to facilitate community based initiatives such as; acquiring scholastic materials, construction of classrooms, , supply of clean water to communities etc.

5.      Adventure safaris and Hiking
If you enjoy the rush of Adrenalin, jump off the usual tourist tracks and get doing the extremely daring stunts, that’s the essence of these trips.  Ram into the daring Nile rapids on either mild or wild rafting, other activities include; kayaking, river boarding, Jet-boat rides and kissing the Nile with a bungee jump (Jinja).

The other option is hiking up the challenging mountains of Uganda; climb Mt Rwenzori to reach at Margarita peak-the snow capped peak; located on Mt Stanley which stands a height of 5109 m above sea level for a 7 Days round trip. You can also climb Mt Elgon is to reach Wagagai- the highest peak , standing at 4,321m above sea level on a 4 Days mountaineering expedition.  Alternatively climb the Virunga Volcanoes on the Ugandan side for instance: Muhavura stands at 4127 m above sea level, Sabinyo at 3660 m and Gahinga which stands at 3474 m.

In Rwanda, take on the virunga volcanoes of Karisimbi – a two days hike for a round trip and Mt Bisoke a days trip with a beautiful view of a lake on top. You can also hike the entire Congo-Nile trail or simply join in a certain distance.

We once again encourage to make time for a life time and memorable visit to Uganda with RAK Safaris as you trusted professional Safari Handlers.
