Overall, a very good value safari
4/5

We did a five-day safari with Focus in Africa in March 2020. We visited Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara.

Overall, the safari was great value. We saw a lot of animals, including the Big Five. Nelson, the organiser, was easily reachable and communicative.

Our driver, Loi Solo, was superb. He was very kind, was able to navigate the tough roads, and importantly was very good at spotting the animals. The safari jeeps were excellent, with pop-up rooves, electricity sockets for charging devices, a fridge, and everyone had a window seat.

Most of the camping was of good standard, the facilities for the campsite near Tarangire and Lake Manyara were excellent.

The food was also good.

There were a couple of drawbacks. The campsite in the Serengeti was poor, a lot of the tents were old & broken, and could not keep out the rain (we were there in the wet season). Our particular safari appeared to be overbooked, which led to a cramped jeep and a number of changes to the itinerary over the five days.

As this was a budget camping safari, these are not issues that would prevent me recommending Focus in Africa to those interested in a safari experience.

I'm very sorry for the people who work for this company, but I can't recommend the company that was responsible for my climbing at all, but I can't recommend the people who work closely with you or accompany you. But you can also find them everywhere else and you can also hire Angelo privately, for example. I can only warmly recommend him and his team, but you've already read that. So if you are interested, I would be happy to put you in touch.😊 But Nelson, who I have corresponded with and who owns this company, was a horror. Zero information and quite long response times. Some answers didn't even arrive after several reminders. The information that followed was also inadequate. For example, I asked him what utensils I needed, since I'm a complete layman. He wrote to me that I didn't have to worry about anything or any utensils. Everything would be there. I don't have to worry. But he didn't say that I had to pay for the missing utensils. I ended up paying an additional $90 and in the end I feel let down. What about people who are on a tighter budget? He also didn't write down what the preparation should look like. The person who does this for the first time, like me, is left alone. Sure, you can read up on the internet, but every company does it differently. There is no sensible information on his website either. I'm very sorry, but I had to get this out of the way, also for the people who might be interested in climbing Mount Kili or doing something similar. I also booked the safari through Nelson and it was also designed to spend as little money as possible. Several groups who had booked different things were put in one car, which is fine in itself. You got to know more people and the stories behind them, but the implementation was horror and the performance didn't live up to the promise or the program. For example, we each had much shorter safari times. You left at just the wrong times. And meals were designed differently and even skipped. And since I have already completed two safaris, I can easily compare. And the comparison is very negative. He also failed to mention that bed and breakfast worth $20 each was included before the respective venture. So I didn't use this service, which is almost fine for me, but I just think paying $40 for the transfers is unfair and not right. I'm very sorry, but in the end it's more important to me that, should you ever do this, you are as informed as possible.

Excellent safari for a budget price
5/5

I chose to book with Focus in Africa literally last minute (1 day in advance). Ver quick response and they provided me with a free taxi driver for settling the payment. I went on 4 day safari with a group of 5 random people. We visited Tarangire 1 day, Serengeti 2 days and Ngorongoro 1 day. Did a lot of driving, also early morning, saw amazing amount of animals. Our guide Augustine was very good, took super care of us and was also fun and joking. I dont remember cooks name, but the food was delicious and always plenty of it. I booked stay in the tents, but for 2 nights we stayed in the rooms (on second night we were upgraded due to possible rain, very nice surprise). Also the night in the tent was comfortable. Totally recommended! The only thing I could wish - if the company would offer to rent binoculars.

Wonderful Safari for very fair price
5/5

We did the 3 days safari to serengeti and ngorongoro crater and it was one of the best travels we had so far.

The safari was very well organized and explained by Nelson. We got a hostel and transport from the airport included in the safari-tour.
In the next day our driver Steward picked us up there. He knows alot of things about the areas and the animals and our chef William cooked delicious food for us.

The accomentation was in tents in some like camping areas which was also very good organized and handled.

Regarding the animals: We didn’t expect that we will see such an amount of them and such vaerity. It was just stunning and amazing.

All in all i just can say that the safari was totally worth it - we would do it again.

Amazing!
5/5

Solo female traveller. Did the four day/three night safari - Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Trip was affordable and suitably adventurous (camping in the middle of the Serengeti was a highlight). The food was plentiful and good hearty camp fare. A huge shout out to our guide Augustine who was knowledgeable, patient, kind and fun. Focus in Africa took care of everything from airport pick up and accommodation the night prior to the tour. Arusha Safari Hostel were amazing and I ended up staying three nights on my return. They made me feel like part of the family and getting to spend Christmas day with them made me so very happy. Highly recommend!

The tour with Focus in Africa was beyond amazing!
5/5

Definitely and highly recommend the safari with Focus in Africa. The whole experience was more than amazing: lovely guide (Augustin), very experienced and always patient and happy to stop wherever asked to, fantastic in spotting animals and teaching everything he knows about the parks and the wildlife. Joyful and attentive to our needs throughout the trip. Prosper, the chef, is also a five star. Extremely polite and the meals where beyond what we were imagining to get (tasty soups, african dishes, and never repeating his menu). If you are on a budget, do not hesitate in doing the group safari (6-people), the experience will be even better if you join an exciting and diverse group, as we had the luck to be part of. Camping at the campsites is just like being in the nature with the animals, an unique trip for life.

Terrible service
1/5

This company is lacking service and professionalism. Due to a technical failure, we had to pay the safari in cash - which at first is not a problem at all. However, the staff member took us to distant ATM machine where we had to take cash out. While counting the money, the staff member pulled the money out of our hands! He very aggressively took the money out of our hands. Also, we paid too much and the guy did not give us any change back.

Nelson is in charge of the company but he is barely available via phone or email. They are responding very slowly and they are blaming everyone else but themselves. They offered to have a chat in Arusha, while I was already back in my country.... after that they never handled the situation appropriately... If you can book with a different organisation, please do so!

Awesome Safari for fair and affordable price
5/5

Compared to other tour operators, Focus in Africa provides cheap safaris but with very high quality. They replied very fast and clear. We had a great trip. The driver as well as the cook did a great job and we saw a lot of animals.

Adventure of a lifetime
5/5

This was one of my most beautiful experiences in my lifetime so far and I can wholeheartedly recommend Nelson and his team. Everything was extremely professional, from the booking throughout the entire safari. I am quite sure this is the best value for money safari in all of Tanzania. If you are hesitant, just go for it!

From the point I was picked up at the airport, I felt incredibly welcome at Nelson‘s hostel. Iddy set up a beautiful bonfire at night, Mama Afrika cooked the most delicious meals and I met many fellow travelers as we enjoyed the dinner together.

Our 4-day safari was just perfect, I still cannot believe how much we saw in such short amount of time. Tarangire, Ngoro Ngoro, Serengeti and Lake Manyara. We saw so many animals so up close. Big thanks to the best driver George who always went the extra mile for us to see the animals from the best angle❤️ and our chef Salehe who cooked delicious meals and always catered to us vegetarians. Camping underneath the African night sky was truly a once in a lifetime experience even though I had never camped before. I wouldn't want it any other way.

I was traveling alone but had so much fun and made new friends in our lovely safari group.

Thank You so much guys for this unforgettable experience!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
