Kidepo and Karamoja with Grassrootz Adventure
5/5

During my Christmas break I decided to go to Kidepo and Karamoja with a friend, organized by Grassrootz Adventures. We took off in Kampala with James as our driver. Although it was a long day, it was worth traveling because we crossed the whole country, with its different views, sceneries, landscapes and cultural settlements. It was nice to see the different places and we got an idea of the country Uganda. When it was dark we arrived in Buffalo Base (the guesthouse near Kidepo) where we were welcomed with a nice dinner. The beautiful sky with its innumerous amount of stars made the evenings somewhat mystic.
The next day we went to Kidepo National Park for a game drive. We had a great morning. There were almost no other tourists and we saw many different animals. We had a very enthusiastic ranger, who was very eager to show us as many animals as possible. The park is very big and breathtaking. There are almost no other tourists, which makes the experience even better. In the center of the park is a nice resting area, where it is possible to have lunch while watching zebras coming for a drink at the water point. In the afternoon and the next morning, we did another game drive going to different parts of the park. In the afternoon of our third day we went for a village walk with the people from Buffalo Base.
On the fourth day we set off to Kotido. Kotido is a bit more south and is located in the Karamoja region. The landscape is different and while driving you see people herding their cows or goats. In the afternoon we visited the Manyata village, which is a very big village where people live in traditional houses and wear traditional clothing. It was interesting to see how these people live. Karamoja Arts Guesthouse was a very nice place to stay where you sleep in a banda (the traditional house). It is also a good place to experience the isolatedness of the area. It is comfortable although you are in the middle of nowhere.
The next morning we went to Moroto, again a bit more south and in the Karamoja area. It is located near Mount Moroto, which we climbed in the afternoon. It is a very windy place and a bit bigger than Kotido.
The last day we traveled back to Kampala.

James is a very good driver and very nice company to spent your days with. He takes care that everything goes well, he stops when you want to take pictures and he knows a lot about the country. Besides, he was also very enthusiastic about the places we visited which made it more fun to spend time together.

Overall, I would really recommend to go to the north of Uganda, because it so different than the south, it is still very pure and Kidepo park is worth visiting. It is a good combination of safari, landscapes and culture, and you get a good idea about Uganda. Grassrootz Adventures organises everything very well, the communication went quick and clear. The accommodations and food were very fine and the safari was great. Thank you very much for the whole trip!!

Great experience with an amazing guide
5/5

We traveled for two weeks with David, our amazing guide! He was very able and experienced and he knew a lot to tell about Uganda. He also was a very good spotter, he spotted many animals from a big distance. We stayed in some beautiful accommodations on very surprising places. The combination between nature, culture and safaris was perfect. We would recommend Grassrootz to all our family and friends. We had an unforgettable trip!

Amazing!!
5/5

We had an amazing trip with a group of 8 people. Our tourguide was really nice and we had a lot of fun together. The accomodation was good and cosy. In the evening there was a big campfire, which we enjoyed. During the gamedrives we saw a lot of animals. The driver drove quietly, so we could take beautiful pictures.

The mailcontact was really good. Grassrootz responded quick and gave me the right information.

Thanks for the amazing experience!!

Good organized, well communicated and friendly welcomed!!
5/5

it started all with the mail from Sander, grassrootzuganda.com, after I send a request at safaribookings.
Already the planing for the trip was very uncomplicated and flexible. 2 weeks before we started, the number of the group was not fixed. Also with the exact date Sander helped us a lot.
We've been picked at our hotel, the driver called a day before. The trip up to Kidepo is quit long, but the driver was good and he tried to make it comfortable as possible for us.
The commandatio, buffalo base, is not greatest I've ever seen, but for that great price good and clean. We had warm shower, power for the phones in the evening and a nice place outside to relax.
One of the bist thing there, the cook! we got really great breakfast and supper!! lunch was is the park, was ok, but buffalo base was really good.
The result of the whole group was great, every one want to do it again, if time and every other stuff allow it;)

Amazing guide in beautiful Uganda
5/5

We had a great experience with the group and the guide at Murchison falls. The guide was really enthousiastic and because of that we enjoyed it. The daily program was various, first with the car, later with the boat and after that we hiked to the top of the Murchison falls. The nature and animals we saw were very beautiful. We will never forget it. Thanks for this amazing and unforgettable experience.

My friend and I did a 3 day tour with Grassrootz to Murchinson Park in Uganda. They provided an excellent service at a very agreeable price. Our guide Paul was knowledgeable and really looked after us. I would thoroughly recommend Grassrootz for an enjoyable and safe trip.

The Unexplored Eastern Uganda
5/5

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip, and would certainly recommend it again. Part of it that was so nice was how personal it was. My father and I were the only ones on the tour, we had a personal driver, a personal guide at Kidepo, Kotido and Moroto. Seeing a part of Uganda that most people don't, and really couldn't up until about 5 years ago was fun. It was peaceful, beautiful, and I feel like they really try and personalize it. They have a route that we took, but seemed pretty flexible about how long we wanted to be in any one place. It was also a nice variety. I've been on safaris before where it's just game drives everyday for a week, and that's too much. This was a nice mix of wildlife, culture, and outdoors activities.

Two other things to be aware of (not criticisms, by the way, just so that you know what you're getting into). This is not a fast paced tour. You typically have an activity in the morning, and then travel in the afternoon. I enjoyed this, it wasn't rushed, but if you need every hour of everyday to be filled, this may not be the tour for you. Also, It does take some time to get places in Uganda, especially the eastern part of the country. So if you want to see it, be prepared to drive hours everyday. As I said, this didn't detract at all from the trip for me, but some may not want to be in the car as long.

Overall, I loved it, and I think Grassrootz did an excellent job. I'm actually going to be asking them for details about what tours they offer in the Southwest part of the country soon. Thanks for an amazing journey!
