The best tour operator for our silver-wedding-Uganda-tour
5/5

In October 2019 we visited a travel show to get inspired for our next travels. After looking at different offers we decided on a 22 day self-drive adventure through Uganda in May and June of 2020. We were really excited but everything changed because of Covid. Uganda closed its borders pretty quickly and we had to postpone our trip to June 2021 and turned it into a vacation to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary.

At the beginning of June 2021 we arrived in Entebbe, got picked up at the airport and driven to our accommodation where we met Axel the next day. Axel was our contact person during our trip and he was also the one who handed over the Toyota Land Cruiser with an elevating roof, which was quite the advantage in the following days.

It was time to get into the chaotic traffic of Kampala and head to our next stop, the Sippi waterfalls in the east of the country. Google Maps told us that we would arrive there at about 6 o'clock in the evening. However, the Ugandan government was kind enough to impose its second lockdown on the country. Luckily, tourism was exempted. In Kampala people tried to get their children out of school and clogged the city’s streets for hours. We finally managed to arrive at our destination at around 10 pm.
After a hike to the falls, we were drawn to Uganda's northernmost national park, the Kidepo Valley National Park. A must do for every safari fan. A park with lots of wildlife. Only the tsetse flies were a bit of a nuisance, but they didn't stop us from seeing lions, buffaloes and other animals.

From there, our journey continued to the Murchison Falls National Park where the Murchison Falls squeeze through a narrow crevice. It is a breathtaking natural spectacle which let’s you experience the power and beauty of nature with all your senses.
The chances to see lions in the park are normally pretty high but they decided to hide from us. Luckily, the sighting of a leopard did make up for it.
The Kibale Forest National Park, which is famous for its chimpanzees and forest elephants, was definitely a highlight for us. We only saw the droppings of the forest elephants during our chimpanzee tracking but seeing the chimpanzees in their natural habitat was an experience we will never forget.
The serenity with which they accepted our presence was very impressive. It surely is a must do, especially for anyone interested in wildlife. The fact that the visit is limited to only one hour is a pity for us tourists, but absolutely right and important for the animals.

After this very touching experience, we continued our journey to the Queen Elizabeth National Park.
In the Ishasha sector of the park the famous tree lions can be spotted and this time the safari luck was on our side as we discovered a presumably pregnant lioness relaxing on a tree. The next day we spotted another rare hyena family.

A scenic drive along the volcanic mountains took us to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This is where we did our Gorilla Tracking. After a proper briefing, us tourists were assigned to different groups visiting different gorilla families. Our backpacks were carried by local porters, who also helped us with rough spots in the jungle. Our group was preceded by scouts who had already searched for the gorillas and were in contact with our rangers. After a challenging walk through the rainforest, we arrived and after a brief reminder of how to behave, we went to the gorilla family which was peacefully sitting in the thick forest doing their favourite activity - eating. We were greeted by a young animal of about three years, which wanted to attract our attention with a show. The silverback was sitting right next to us and it seemed like nothing could bother him. A truly imposing animal, whose impressive body gives no hint of how peaceful it is. After a few more steps, we also discovered the female family members these were a bit shy. We were allowed to get as close as 10 metres to the animals, which made the experience indescribably beautiful. It is hard to believe how quickly an hour can pass, because that’s when we had to leave these gentle giants again and make our way back.
After this unforgettable experience, our journey continued to Lake Bunyonyi, one of the deepest lakes in Africa, beautifully embedded in nature. We celebrated our silver wedding anniversary here, right where the three countries of Uganda, Rwanda and the Congo meet, with a spectacular sunset over the lake, far away from any hustle and bustle.
At the end of our trip we stopped at the Lake Mburo National Park, the park with the highest density of zebras in Uganda, before we returned to Germany via the Entebbe Airport.

22 days of self-drive tour through Uganda are far too short to capture this fantastically beautiful country in its entirety. It always made us a little sad when we heard from other travellers that they were only there for 9-14 days. Axel was crucial for the smooth running of our great trip, and no matter whether it was a blocked SIM card, a flat tyre or confusing Google Maps, he was always available for us and could solve all our problems. Thank you for your "all-round carefree support"!

22 days were just not enough for us – we will be back!

What an amazing adventure!
5/5

Because of the Covid situation our decision to go to Uganda for 2 weeks in November was pretty spontaneous. Without Axel from Across Africa we would have never been able to organize and book this trip so quickly and easily. He was always on stand by and gave us helpful tips. We decided on a self-drive tour, which surely was an adventure but we never regretted it.
The country is beautiful and so green, just incredible.
We felt safe at all times and have never met such friendly people anywhere else.
The gorilla tracking was our highlight, we still cannot find the right words to describe it! It was an unique experience which we will remember for the rest of our lives.
We had so many amazing experiences in those two weeks, especially when it comes to the animals we got to see, e. g. giraffes, buffaloes and elephants. Another highlight was the chimpanzee habituation which we would have never done if it wasn’t for Axel. We are glad that we could to spend half a day with this amazing guide.
The food was delicious and every special request was fulfilled. Everybody was always so eager and we did feel welcome and comfortable at all times.

Thanks again to Axel from Across Africa for the amazing organization, the great tips and for answering all our questions so patiently.

Unforgettable self drive safari well planned!
5/5

We booked a 16 day self driving tour, starting in Kampala and going via lake Mburo, Bwindi Impenetrable, Queen Elizabeth Kibale and Murchison Falls around the country. It was really worth travelling to Uganda both for the nature and the people, who were very friendly and open. Highlights of our tour were the Gorilla tracking, the chimpansee tracking and a balloon flight at the end. All accomodations were nice with friendly staff and good food, and situated in good locations with stunning views.
Chameleon Hill Lodge made us dream of living there because you can swim in the lake, the climate is not too hot and a lot of activties around.
The whole tour was well prepared by ACROSS Africa, they were also very helpful when we needed support (we had some trouble with our car), so we will definitely book them again.

Best way to see and travel in Uganda
5/5

It was a great pleasure to be in Uganda by across Africa! Everything was well organised and perfect. Besides, we got an upgrade of the Lodges because there were not many people that we could have the better accommodations (for free).
We also had a fantastic guide at our private tour - his name is Stompie and I could highly recommend him, he did a fantastic job the whole 9 days - it was amazing to have him because he makes every wish come true! Either if we wanted to eat somewhere else for lunch time or wanted to stop in some extra places. Furthermore we saw many animals and were also getting so close zu them - it was more than perfect (because I only had a mobile phone to make some pictures).
We were so lucky with the whole Safari - if I do ever a Safari again in Uganda, I'm doing it with across africa and I really hope with the same guide (Jan/ Stompie) again!
Unfortunately they are only in Uganda otherwise I would book with them in other countries!

The round trip through Uganda was very well organized and everything was fine.
5/5

Our 15-day tour was beautiful and well organized. Praise and thanks to the team of Across Africa and Doris for the good organization and the tailor-made program. We have met Ugande as a very beautiful country. Our safari took us from Murchison Falls National Park, Kibale Forest National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable NP to Lake Mburo National Park. We saw the big five and lots of other animals and birds. Also beautiful were our boat trips on the Nile to the Murchison Falls, the Kazinga Canal and on Lake Mburo. Great praise to our guide Richard, who was very friendly, professional and helpful.
Uganda is worth the trip.
We can only recommend ACROSS Africa as the organizer and will definitely be traveling with Across Africa when we come back.

An excellent holiday in Uganda!!
5/5

I have always wanted to travel more of Africa! I live in South Africa and have visited Mozambique and Namibia, but never to Uganda. A friend of mine from home showed me pictures of her holiday in Uganda and I instantly felt the need to travel there! I found out about Across Africa and had my holiday booked through them. I requested a midrange budget for my holiday for my ten-day holiday and the offer was given to me the following day! I got a better price to suit my budget and got to experience gorilla tracking!!! I wasn't to sure about how Ugandan safari would be in comparison with the rest of my experiences in Africa, but all I can say is that Across Africa fulfilled more than my expectations, but also made Uganda one of my top African Safaris yet!!!

So thanks to Across Africa for an amazign holiday and looking forward to using them again in the future!!

Unforgettable Safari Experience!!!
5/5

We were on a unique, tailor-made Safari in Murchison Falls, Lake Albert, Kibale Forest and Bwindi. I truly didn't expect such a diverse number of game in all of the park - we saw it all: Lions, Elephants, all kind of Antilopes, Hippos, Giraffes, Buffalos, Crocodiles, Birds, a Leopard and many other species.
Everything was well organized according to our itinerary. Our tour guide Stompi was very friendly and professional and the car was clean & well maintained.

We will come back and definitely travel with this company again!!!
