Overall an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
5/5

My partner and I booked a 7 day 6 night safari tour in Kenya with Explorer's Wild Adventures starting on the 3rd June and finishing on the 10th.
We were nervous because we'd never booked anything like this before and obviously it's a large amount of money to transfer to a foreign company. Communication could have been a bit more frequent, as we were anxious about being scammed, however we understand that the company was busy, possibly due to limited staffing, so took a bit longer to reply to our emails.

Once we were there however things got much better. Our driver, David, picked us up from our hotel and we were off to the races. Honestly we cannot fault David, he was very passionate, considerate, and make every effort to make sure we were comfortable and looked after.

Our first destination was Lake Nakuru. Our highlights included seeing both a black rhino and a family of white rhinos, a lioness hunting zebra, Rothschild' giraffes up close, and flamingos on the salt water lake.

Then our next two days were spent on the Masai Mara. We were lucky enough to see two cheetah brothers, and pride of lions eating a buffalo, and having a picnic under a tree inside the savannah. David was very much on it with his radio, communicating with other drivers, and getting us to the action. Just a word of warning, the chicken in the packed lunches here and at Amboseli (if with the AA Lodge) was VERY dry, obviously we had our expectations, but still, like DRY.

We then spent one day at Lake Navaisha, where we did a boat trip followed by a nature walk on the island. Our boat driver managed to lure an eagle up close by throwing a fish into the lake so we got to see it hunting. The island is a must-go in our opinion because you can see zebra, giraffe, wildebeast and water buck up close by foot, which is a very different experience to seeing them by car. They are used to people, I was literally within touching distance of a baby zebra.

Our last two days were spent in Amboseli, this is a smaller national park which is actually a good thing because it meant the concentration of animals felt a lot higher compared to the Masai Mara. We saw cheetah's stalking zebras here, but the main stars of the show were the large herds of elephants as they migrate between Mount Kilimanjaro and the swamps, and a very special hippo which comes out during the day and eats non stop, honestly we were within 1-2m of it and it did not care at all!

On the morning of the return journey we took an early morning walk. Again a very unique experience, being out on foot is a nice change to being stuck in the car all day. We got the see the sunrise and Mount Kilimanjaro without any clouds obscuring the peak. Our guide Julius showed us the different tracks of wild animal species and we manage to spot some baby giraffes, which we hadn't manage to see before, as apparently this area specifically was where mother's hide their calves. Just be careful to bring higher heeled boots if possible or just wear sandals without socks like our guide, as there are plants which spit out their seeds, which cling to socks etc, and they are quite thorny!

We finished with a meal of local chicken with chapati, fried vegetables and chicken soup, honestly our best meal of the week, and as per Kenyan customs we gave David a healthy tip for his services, very much well deserved. We got dropped off at our hotel in Nairobi and then he gave us an extra life to the local Galleria to do some shopping.

Overall I highly recommend this trip and experience, and if he's available ask for David. June is some ways is better than July in my opinion as it's not as hot, as there is far less competition for the action (5-15 cars compared to 30+ cars I've been told?). Obviously though the great migration is a special spectacle which only starts late June early July.

I picked Explorers Wild Adventures after reading reviews just like the one I am about to write. I admit that I was nervous until it got started because I acted as my own travel agent, and wasn't sure it would all work out. I was thrilled once we got started. We had a driver waiting for us at the airport to take us to our hotel in Nairobi, which was wonderful. Then, David, our guide, picked us up in the morning. David couldn't have been a better guide. He worked so hard for us to make sure we made the most of our time at every place we went. He was a great driver, very knowledgeable about the animals and landscape, and did everything he could to help us exceed our expectations of our safari. My husband and I traveled with our 20 year old daughter, and decided to upgrade to the private option. We also upgraded to a jeep, and asked for the mid/luxury range. We had a private room with our own entrance at each lodge, and the food was wonderful at every place. These places were not the super ritzy places that my daughter has shown me on social media videos but they were all very clean, comfortable, and the grounds were quite pretty. We actually wished we had more time to spend at the pools! (not really- being out in the Bush is what we were there for!). We saw so many animals, and David made sure we saw the great migration of the wildebeest across the Masai River. We hope to go back to Africa with our boys - and would use the same company again, and hope for David again as well. The only downfall is the long rides between places, but David was a good driver- and that is why the price is affordable. For those people who fly between places- they have a different guide at each place. We loved having David with us each day.

Explorers Wild Adventures had a magnificent and very well planned safari for us. The places were majestic and the people very welcoming! It was a dream come true. The Safari surpassed our expectations. We were constantly amazed. Our tour guide, Mr Zachary, was extremely knowledgeable and very energized, he became our friend. We learned so much from the culture and had one of our best times. Zachary treated us as part of his family and took care of us. We never felt unsafe with Zachary.

Would have love to give 5 stars …
3/5

There was a confusion about the pick up time but we made everything to be ready at the given time even if it wasn’t what was requested , but we ended waiting a little bit more than an hour to be picked up
From there everything was very nice , the safari was amazing , we’ve been lucky enough to see many animals and magical scenery on the first and second day !
The camp was okay , and was exactly as described . The food was nice also !
The masaai made a fire camp for us during the last night , we stayed around and enjoyed this time !
But the third day was a bit deceiving , we were brought to the masaai village at an extra cost , and to be honest it looked staged , and everything was made to make us give more and more money ! And the prices were excessfull !! People over there were kind of putting pressure on us to make us buy something or give money .
It’s a bit sad cause it was nice to discover the traditions at the beginning .
The we were brought to the community school and were again ask for “donations”.
After all that we were all a bit disturbed about this experience , and it was time to hit the road back to Nairobi .
On the road we asked our driver if it was possible to be dropped at Nairobi Terminus to catch our train , he told us that it was okay for him but he ended up dropping us in central Nairobi , with some guys who offered us to keep our luggage during the afternoon for free and then drop us at the train station for free in the evening ! But after, when we got in the office to leave our stuff , they started telling us that the ride to the train station will be at an extra cost !!! So I refused !! It wasn’t supposed to be like that !
All the other person in the group were dropped off were they asked !!
So we left and ended up paying a Bolt to get to the train station , which I find non professional at all since the tour guide was supposed to drop us there !!

Our guide really made the difference!
5/5

My group of friends (4 women) booked a private 3-days safari at Amboseli with Explorers Wild Adventure. The organisers were very responsive and tailored the safari based on our wishes. We stayed at the kilima lodge for 2 nights, the food was excellent and the lodges are spacious, cosy and quite isolated from each other which allows to be closer to nature. But what made our trip absolutely exceptionnal, was our Guide Zachary. He shared his knowledge during the whole tour (on animals but also about Kenya), spotted animals like no one else and had a profound respect for them (as opposed to other cars we could see in the park). Zachary would drive us to less explored places - he is also a very good driver!
We would recommend Zachary to all clients of Explorer Wild Adventure!

Total excitement
5/5

I requested quotes for safari from 3 different companie and Explorers Wild Adventures offered the best one. The safari was an exciting adventure, we've seen almost every animal in the savannah and could come very close to the lions and cheetahs. I can only recommend taking the tour. We took the standard van, which was ok, but if you like more comfort, I'd advice to take a jeep, as the roads are often long and bumpy.

The experience was really great right from the time we land in Nairobi airport. Explorers Wild Adventures made sure that we were comfortable, everything goes as planned and if there are any end moment changes which will be communicated to us. I would like to highlight the service of our guide David, who took care of us and our wishes, made sure that we have an wonderful safari experience. Overall very much recommend their service.

The safari trip was amazing, which was for a large part due to our amazing tour guide Zachary, who knew the parks extremely well and was genuinely enthusiastic about the animals

An experience way better than expected!
5/5

I was quite careful when booking this tour because when it comes to safari, even the budget options are very expensive. I decided to get the most of it and booked a 6-day trip to 3 national parks. And now, I must say, my overall experience was even better than I would expect.
We were an international team of 7 in a minivan. It's important to mention something I learned about how the tours are organized - each one of us booked from a different operator and even paid a different price! Therefore, it's hard for me to say what really differentiates one operator from the others.
Maxwell, our driver, was really great! What stands out at first is his excellent knowledge. He had answers to all the questions and knew all the species. Driving in the national parks, especially such as Masai Mara, may be very challenging, but he (as well as our minivan) proved absolutely unbeatable. We were able to pass the most difficult obstacles on the way and after that our driver would even help other drivers. I was impressed how they cooperate with each other. There's no competition but a common will to provide the experience of a lifetime to all the participants. And we made it, we got the big five in just 3 days, and even more than that! Some animals would willingly approach us to even one meter away! It's just unbelievable how they do not care about our presence at all. And the sceneries of elephant or lion families right in front of my eyes, is something I will recall forever and ever.
In terms of organization, I can't complain much, because I chose the budget option. The accommodation was decent, the food was basic but alright. Just FYI, there's no air conditioning in the car even though traveling from one park to another is a significative part of the entire safari.
I only regret two things: 1) Our visit in Nakuru could have been longer. We were only chasing a rhino and as soon as we spotted it, we left. 2) Bottled water was supposed to be unlimited but on the first day of the trip I was informed that "unlimited" means just one litre per person per day which is laargely insufficient when the temperature reaches over 30 degrees Celcius. It's a very small expense for the company, so I think they could really provide what "unlimited" in fact means.
To summarize: if you think that visions of paradise in Jehova's Witnesses' bulletins are some kind of fantasy out of a child's imagination, just go to Kenyan national parks and see it with your own eyes. It's really there, on this Earth.

The safari with Explorers Wild Adventures and our guide Jeff was great - we have seen all big five animals and many more. Jeff was the perfect guide with so much knowledge about the nature, the wildlife and the culture in Kenya. I would definitely recommend to do this!
