Dan is the Man, and Kenya is a Must!
We had such a great time in Kenya! My spouse and I went with our three kids, ages 16 yrs, 11 years (who celebrated his birthday on the trip!), and 6 years old. Dan was very knowledgable and was great with our kids (and their plethora of fart noises). He was great at working with other guides and finding where the tougher animals were tucked away. We had incredible luck thanks to his experience and attention. Some highlights included: seeing a cheetah on a successful hunt and enjoying her meal, seeing multiple leopards up close, getting to touch and feed a black rhino and some giraffes, and just seeing SO many animals! I won't lie, that I LOVE animals, but I was concerned about 7 days straight of safari drives, multiple times a day. That is a LOT of animals and seemed like a bit much and redundant to me, BUT I couldn't have been more wrong. The kids loved bouncing around in the Jeep, the scenery and animals varied from stop to stop so it was always exciting getting to see new places and creatures. There were a lot of souvenir shop stores with local handiwork on sale and being made in front of you (note, these were quite expensive and we don't like haggling for prices and probably aren't very good at it- the final stop back in Nairobi we went to an AWESOME and HUGE souvenir shop with incredible prices. If I could do it over, I would have saved all my souvenir shopping for there, or at least 90% of it, but I still love the items that we purchased and I am happy our purchases supported local artisans throughout Kenya and not in just one location).
He took the time to teach us so many Swahili words and share so much information about Kenya as well as his family and life. Dan was so friendly and we really enjoyed our time with him. We had a nice variety of accommodations, some quite luxurious, and other quite rustic. I am a huge Ernest Hemingway fan, so I was beside myself to stay at an accommodations that housed Hemingways African home! Sitting in his living room drinking a cocktail and overlooking Kilimanjaro was surreal. We got to see the sunset illuminate Kilimanjaro and it was just the absolute perfect ending to our trip. It was neat to have different experiences and it also helped make the trip affordable for us. So many people thought our trip was extravagant and just out of the realm of possibilities, but I cannot stress enough that really the price was comparable to US vacations and definitely cost less than Disney for example. If it is a trip you are interested in, it is definitely doable and there are so many options to make it work for so many price points.
The food was great, we enjoyed the variety of options and we were always able to find things for everyone to eat (we have one family member with severe food allergies, another that is pescatarian, and then a young child that isn't always the most adventurous eater).
I'm sure I am forgetting things, but again, just a wonderful experience overall. so many memories were made and I couldn't have been happier with the trip. 10/10

Beyond the plains safari tour company review
Beyond the plains prepared a custom private safari tour for us to the Maasai Mara that was done extremely well by their office team and payment processes were extremely smooth and communication was great. On the start of our safari the team got us safari hats which was a nice touch and we were accompanied by one of their drivers called John who is very knowledgeable with the nomenclature of the animal species in the Mara and familiar with the vast Mara ecosystem.
A point of concern is the driving which was not particularly safe especially overtaking on the escapements trying to dodge in and out of traffic. This can lead to serious fatal accidents. Another point of concern is that our driver was constantly using his mobile device even when driving and did not have his seat belt on for majority of the trip. This is being extremely casual on the road and not respecting the Highway Code.
All in all we had a good experience at Amani Mara and had lovely game drives where we saw the big four (no rhino) and other wildlife animals.

They were professional, expedient, efficient and carved out a fantastic experience for us
We were linked with Kennedy as our guide. He and two others arrived at our hotel in Nairobi to complete payment, gift us useful items and off we set. Kennedy was chatty in explaining a myriad of things to us. He was a safe driver, clearly used to all sorts of mad terrains. He encouraged all sorts of questions and was able to read what we would love to do on safari. We max’ed the experience with him! He found such gorgeous wildlife for us to view and allowed us to stare in wonder at the magnificence of the animals. He was proficient and always prompt/punctual. He spent hours out with us on the Mara. We had exceptional viewings and experiences. We all all 5 several times across the days. And he managed to get us a perfect position to see first crossing of the migration. He took footage and shared it with us. A delightful human who left an impressive mark on our lives. We are grateful for his talent , kind ways and infectious laugh.

Very Responsive, Accomodative
We visited Kenya in June through beyond the plains. We had an amazing experience. The company had laid out a good itinerary but was very flexible in adjusting to our preference of stays.
We had some delays with flights and had to shift all our stays forward by a day and Andrew (the company rep who we were coordinating with) made all the necessary adjustments. Our guide Duncan was also a well experienced person and made sure we enjoyed the trip. Masai Mara is anytime beautiful and beyond the plains made our first visit amazing too.

Beyond Words
Let me start with the booking. I decided on Kenya and completed the entire planning and booking over a weekend. The entire process was handled over whatsapp. My countless questions and request for multiple changes due to schedule, cost and flight timings were handled with enthusiasm and patience. I could sense the knowledge of the team and the sincerity in making this a wonderful trip. Then comes the trip itself. The hero undoubtedly is Dun (Duncan). He was the guide for the entire 7 days trip. One of the ever smiling and friendly personalities I have ever seen. We will miss him more than Kenya itself. He knows when to go, where to go, what to see and was quick to adapt to changing wherabouts of animals and our wants.. 25 years of his experience and wisdom helped us spot all the wildlife we wanted to see.. Most of our time was spent in his Landcruiser which is maintained well and clean. Overall a fantastic trip with lots of great memories that we will cherish for a long time. Will be back for Samburu soon. P.S. We had an intern, Emmanuel joining us to learn. A quiet and a smiling person who quickly became my son's friend.

They took care of us from the 1st inquiry through the end of the trip - Best trip ever!
Beyond the Plains was detailed and responsive from 1st inquiry through the final day of our trip. They listened to our desires and not only fulfilled them, but delivered more than we had dreamed - all within our budget.
Maurine not only took care of all of our arrangements, she also checked on us throughout our 11 day trip. She would ensure we knew transfer and excursion arrangements. If we had questions before or during our trip - she responded quickly and effectively.
Our Guide, Ronnie was an all star! He asked for our wildlife priorities and was able to deliver through experience and some networking. Its apparent he loves his job and well known among the locations we visited.
This was not our 1st safari, but our 1st time using Beyond the Plains. I wish I would have found them sooner. They are the best!!

Excellent service at a reasonable price!
The booking experience was straightforward and the office was quick to reply to my questions throughout the process. The pricing was fair for a mid-tier safari. Accommodations were clean and the food was pretty good, nothing to write home about. My guide was excellent and
easy going. His driving was safe and efficient. He seemed to really care that we were having a good time. Would recommend!
Overall Great Experience Thanks to BTP
Beyond the Plains did an amazing job in delivering a fantastic experience in our private safari. Right from the point of sale to dropping us off back in Nairobi, the BTP team was extremely professional. It was well organized and well executed by taking care of every need we had on this special trip. Aaron, our guide was super knowledgeable and skillful in executing the game drive, which was the most important for my photography!

Memorable and comprehensive trip to Kenya and Tanzania
Beyond The Plains brought us on a very memorable and lovely trip through Kenya and Tanzania! Everything went smoothly from planning with Julius to the actual tour with our 3 guides - John, Anderson and Moses. They made sure that we had everything we needed, they were always on high alert on game drives to make sure we saw as much animal action as we could, and they were friendly and always answered our never-ending questions about everything. The only thing bumpy was the roads haha but even then our guides always tried their best to make sure we could be as comfortable as we could be in the jeep. Would highly recommend Beyond The Plains if you're looking to do a safari trip!

Trip of a lifetime
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Flawless from Start to Finish
My wife and I recently returned from a safari in Kenya organized by Beyond the Plains Safaris, and it exceeded every expectation we had.
From the very beginning, Sammy’s guidance through the planning and preparation process was outstanding. Every question was answered promptly, and the attention to detail gave us complete confidence before we even left home.
Once we arrived in Kenya, everything ran flawlessly. Flights, transfers, accommodations, and safari logistics were perfectly coordinated. We never experienced a single problem or delay throughout the trip.
Our guides—Michael, Ian, Aaron, and James—were exceptional. Their knowledge of the parks, wildlife, and local culture greatly enhanced our experience, and they were a pleasure to spend time with each day. Moses was also incredibly helpful in our Nairobi transfers and making sure everything went smoothly.
We have traveled extensively around the world, both independently and on organized tours and cruises, and this ranks among the very best travel experiences we have ever had. The wildlife viewing was incredible, the accommodations were outstanding, and the warmth and hospitality of the Kenyan people made the trip even more special.
A heartfelt thank you to Sammy and the entire Beyond the Plains team for creating such an unforgettable adventure. We will enthusiastically recommend Beyond the Plains Safaris to anyone considering an African safari.
Highly recommended without hesitation.
