The entire staff at Beyond The Plains were very attentive and responsive. From the booking the tours, to the activities, they listened to our needs and did all they could to accommodate us. Our booking process with Sammy was smooth and he was very responsive and he put together a personalised experience for us. Andrew our drive/guide was very warm and knowledgeable. He was particularly good with our kids and made sure they had an amazing safari experience. I would definitely recommend The Beyond the Plains.

Where do we even begin?! We honestly cannot recommend Beyond the Plain Safaris enough! From start to finish, the entire experience was absolutely incredible, and they truly made our honeymoon safari everything we had dreamed of and more!
A HUGE thank you to Maurine, who quite literally saved our honeymoon! Unfortunately, we had been scammed by another safari company, leaving us with just 10 days before our trip and no safari organised. Maurine was absolutely amazing and managed to arrange everything at such short notice, without us having to change a single thing from our original itinerary! Her communication, reassurance and attention to detail were outstanding, and we are so incredibly grateful for everything she did to make our dream trip happen.
And what can we say about our two amazing guides, Ian and Phineas?! 🥹 Both were absolutely fantastic! Their knowledge, passion, friendliness and dedication made our safari experience even more special. They consistently went above and beyond to make sure we had the most incredible time, always going the extra mile to help us see as much wildlife as possible and create memories we will treasure forever.
We were lucky enough to experience some truly unforgettable wildlife encounters, including seeing the most incredible animals up close. Every single day brought something new and exciting, and we couldn’t have asked for better guides to share those moments with.
Everything was so well organised, from the accommodation and transfers to the game drives and overall itinerary. We felt completely looked after throughout our entire journey.
What started as an incredibly stressful situation turned into one of the most magical experiences of our lives, and that is all thanks to the wonderful team at Beyond the Plain Safaris.

This was a wonderful experience and James was our guide. He is so experienced with masai mara and knows his ways to find all the animals. We stayed 4 nights and loved everything about the safari with beyond the Plains. Definitely value for money

The most wonderful adventure
Our experience with Beyond the Plains was fantastic.
We were lucky enough to share this trip with our driver and guide, Peter, who made our experience truly unforgettable.
He was an excellent driver with an extensive knowledge of the local culture, wildlife and places of interest.
He was always attentive, incredibly kind and friendly, and made the long journeys fly by as he shared lots of interesting information with us.
Without a doubt, we would do this adventure all over again!

Very accommodating
Having had to cancel our Safari (originally scheduled for March 2026), Beyond the Plains was incredibly accommodating in rescheduling the Safari - giving multiple options when rebooking.
The Safari itself is a true African adventure.
Our guide, Ken, was confident and articulate, answering multiple questions from the entire family. And in the evenings he joined us for dinner where we had more in-depth chats about all things Kenyan.
While Safari’s themselves are expensive, understanding the costs (park fees, hotels, extensive driving) the Safari was good value for money and most of all gave memories of a lifetime - especially for our 3 teenage children.
And so many incredible photos!

An Unforgettable Maasai Mara Experience
From the very beginning, everything with Beyond the Plains felt seamless. I was especially grateful for how responsive, thoughtful, and accommodating Maurine was throughout the planning process, particularly given how last-minute my arrangements were. I always felt well looked after, and that level of care made a meaningful difference.
The safari itself was truly unforgettable. I feel incredibly fortunate to have witnessed so much in such a short amount of time, and the experience exceeded what I had imagined for my time in the Maasai Mara. I saw an incredible variety of wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, a leopard, hyenas, hippos, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, and so much more. One of the most memorable moments was witnessing a cheetah hunt from start to finish — an experience I will never forget.
Nicholas was exceptional. He was attentive, patient, knowledgeable, and very intentional about understanding what I hoped to experience. He made the safari feel personal rather than simply programmed, and his care, flexibility, and enthusiasm played a huge part in making the trip so memorable. He also had a genuine passion for the Mara and its wildlife, which made the experience even more special.
My stay at Lalashe Mara Camp was another highlight. The villa was spacious, private, beautifully designed, and immersed in the surrounding landscape. Being able to see and hear wildlife directly from the property made the entire stay feel incredibly special.
I’m genuinely so grateful that I chose Beyond the Plains. Maurine, Nicholas, and the entire team contributed so much to making this chapter of my trip unforgettable. I would absolutely recommend Beyond the Plains to anyone planning a safari in Kenya.

Knowledgeable guide but disappointing service and communication
We booked a private safari with Beyond the Plains, and our guide was Douglas. He was very knowledgeable about wildlife and answered our questions thoroughly. However, several aspects of the experience left us disappointed.
Before our arrival, the company told us that our guide would be waiting at the airport arrivals exit holding a sign with our names. Despite receiving our flight information in advance, the promised pickup did not go as expected. We could not find Douglas and were kept waiting. We later learned that he had apparently been in the parking lot. We never saw a sign with our names, even inside the vehicle.
During our highway journey, Douglas was involved in a road accident while driving us. Afterward, we had to stop at a vehicle dealership, which reduced our time on safari. At the time, he offered neither an apology nor a clear explanation of what had happened or why the stop was necessary. He apologized only after we reported the incident to the safari company.
Douglas told us he had more than ten years of experience. While his wildlife knowledge was a strength, his manner sometimes came across as overly proud of his experience. We did not feel involved in planning the game drives. He answered questions when asked, but rarely proactively suggested areas to explore, explained his plans, or discussed options based on sighting information from other guides. We would have appreciated more initiative and communication.
During game drives, he drove very slowly, and other safari vehicles frequently passed us. We understand that slow driving can help with safety and spotting wildlife. However, without an explanation of his approach, we were often unsure of the plan or whether we were making the most of our time.
There were also two occasions involving additional passengers whom Douglas described as friends. We agreed to the first person’s joining us. However, we did not give our consent for the second person to join, yet that person rode with us for approximately five hours from our hotel to Nairobi. We had booked a private safari and expected the vehicle to be exclusively for our party. Having an additional passenger for such a long journey without our consent did not match that expectation.
During this journey, the second passenger threw a plastic bottle out of the vehicle. Douglas said nothing in response. We were shocked by the littering and disappointed that our safari guide did not speak up, particularly given the importance of protecting the environment and wildlife.
Overall, we appreciated Douglas’s wildlife knowledge, but knowledge alone did not make up for the shortcomings in communication and service. The airport pickup, the handling of the accident, the additional passenger without our consent, and the response to littering fell short of our expectations for a private safari.
