An Exceptional Safari Experience with Sustainable Safaris Tanzania

We had the rare privilege of travelling with Sustainable Safaris Tanzania and its owner and guide, Joshua Mollell, not once—but twice—and both safaris were truly exceptional.

I first experienced Tanzania with Joshua in 2024, travelling with my daughter. The journey was so meaningful, insightful, and beautifully curated that I returned again in 2025, this time with my husband. Few experiences stand the test of time the way these safaris did—each trip felt just as special, enriching, and thoughtfully designed as the first.

Joshua is Maasai, and his connection to the land, wildlife, and culture is deeply rooted and immediately apparent. His knowledge of the animals and birds of the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire (including Lake Tarangire) is extraordinary. From tracking wildlife and interpreting animal behaviour to identifying birds by sight and sound, his understanding goes far beyond a guidebook—it comes from lived experience and genuine respect for the environment.

What truly sets Joshua apart is his commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism. Safaris are conducted with care, patience, and reverence for the land. Wildlife encounters never feel rushed or intrusive, and there is a strong emphasis on conservation, education, and cultural respect.

Joshua is also an exceptional host—calm, warm, and deeply attentive. He made both trips feel personal and safe, tailoring the experience to our interests while allowing space for quiet moments of awe. Whether travelling with my daughter or with my husband, he created an atmosphere that was welcoming, enriching, and deeply memorable.

These were not simply safaris—they were transformational experiences, guided by someone who truly understands Tanzania in all its richness and complexity.

If you are seeking a safari that is authentic, ethical, immersive, and unforgettable, I cannot recommend Sustainable Safaris Tanzania and Joshua Mollell highly enough.

Best guide to make the most out of your Safari experience and keep it sustainable

We recently returned from our honeymoon in Tanzania, following a beautiful itinerary from the mainland to Zanzibar. We had an incredibly satisfying 6-day, 5-night safari tour organized by Sustainable Safari Tours!
Our guide, Joshua, who introduced himself as the young CEO of a start-up, was more than just a guide; he was a true guardian who deeply loved the safari, embodying the "Sustainable" title better than anyone. Hailing from the Maasai tribe, he was a humble and righteous person who deeply respected local culture as an integral part of the safari experience and showed genuine gratitude for being able to witness the great wilderness. A man to learn a lot from for sure😁
Furthermore, Joshua is known among other safari guides as an absolute ace due to his outstanding skills. Thanks to his exceptional itinerary coordination, we were able to witness not only the Big 5 but also "The Great Migration (The Great Crossing)"!
The value for money was also excellent. We negotiated the quote directly with Joshua several times via WhatsApp from Korea and secured the most reasonable price compared to other companies. The local accommodations and meals all met our expectations and were very satisfying!
If you are planning a safari tour in Tanzania, I highly recommend booking with Sustainable Safari Tours and experiencing it with Joshua. He is no doubt the best guide with maximum satisfaction guaranteed👍🏻👍🏻

Joshua is truly an amazing person. He has a wonderful character, and you can genuinely feel his deep passion for safari. Everyone we met during the tour spoke highly of him, and his reputation is outstanding.

Thank you for taking perfect care of the tour from start to finish! Compared to other tours, the price was very reasonable, and there was nothing lacking in the experience. 😁 Hakuna Matata!

The best tour operator you can meet in Tanzania, no doubt
5/5

Our experience with Sustainable Safari Tours was beyond amazing – it truly exceeded every expectation.

🦁 The Safari

Our guide Joshua knew exactly where and when each animal would appear depending on the season and the terrain. Thanks to his deep knowledge and incredible instinct, we saw all of the Big Five! While other cars were driving around unsure where to go, Joshua always seemed to know the perfect route and timing. His guiding skills in the vast Serengeti were simply unmatched.

🌍 The Guide & Company Founder

Joshua is not just a safari guide – he’s a storyteller, an educator, and a deeply thoughtful person. As a proud Maasai, he shared with us the rich history and traditions of his people and helped us understand the connection between wildlife, local communities, and conservation.
What impressed us most was his genuine respect for animals and the environment. He always made sure we didn’t disturb wildlife and treated every moment in nature with humility and care. He also trains new guides with generosity and passion — a true role model in the industry.

💰 The Value

The price was incredibly reasonable, especially considering the quality of accommodation, service, and overall experience. Every lodge and camp we stayed in was spotless, comfortable, and beautifully landscaped. Compared to other companies, the cost was lower, yet the quality was far superior. Even after our safari, Joshua helped us explore Arusha city and arranged a visit to a local golf course — all at very fair prices.

🌟 In Conclusion

I truly recommend Sustainable Safari Tours . If you’re planning a safari in Tanzania, contact Joshua. You’ll get not only a perfect wildlife experience but also a meaningful insight into Tanzanian culture and conservation. It was, without a doubt, the highlight of our trip.

Honest and trustworthy tour operator, excellent service
5/5

We are back from an amazing three days safari trip to Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater with Sustainable Safari Tours. As the whole trip was rather spontaneously planned (don’t do that!) we were pretty much stressed out with the preparations. Joshua helped us in several phone calls to take away our fears and answered all of our questions. He offered us a reasonable price and he offered an excellent itinerary and great value for the price. We felt safe from the beginning, and he kept his promises and his word fully. We experienced a superb organized three-day-safari-trip.
Our driver James knew all the good spots, provided us with gorgeous photo opportunities. We stayed in camps (go for the lodges, if you need comfort and if you can afford it) and our tent was surrounded by zebras overnight. Have you ever heard a zebra eating grass? We did! I cannot describe the feeling being in nature among wild animals and still feeling safe.
We have seen the Big Five and many other animals.
It is crucial to have a good and knowledgeable guide and a firm organization in the background. Joshua did a very good job; our tent was always ready when we arrived to a camp and we had a carefree three days just enjoying the wonderful wild life in Tanzania.
John, our cook prepared our meals always on time, doing his very best under difficult circumstances. The meals included a soup, main course and dessert on all evenings. Breakfast was rich and delicious with local specialties, as we asked for it.
The wildlife is amazing, James provided us with information on all animals and spotted them even from very far away. Don’t forget to take good binoculars with you, but as you see on the photos, they are not always necessary to have.
All in all, if you want to support a small independent and honest business in Tanzania and want to have a great time at the same time, choose Sustainable Safari Tours. It is very difficult for small independent businesses to manage nowadays and this is one, that takes hospitability and service seriously and Joshua goes out of his ways to make your safari experience memorable.

Attentive and Aims to Please
5/5

Heading home from a fantastic 4-day, 3-night solo safari with Sustainable Safari Tours (SST) to the Ngogorondo Crater and Serengeti. Where do I start? I am an older woman solo traveler; I was looking for an outfitter who would provide safe and dependable transportation, good communication and an excellent experience at a moderate price. I chose SST. First, Joshua was extremely attentive and communicative. He and I discussed my needs and I decided on a camping trip. He was responsive when I asked questions as I prepared and on the trip itself. He put together a wonderful itinerary. My driver Jumo and John the cook took good care of all my needs - setting up camp, making delicious meals and safely driving from place to place and in the Serengeti and Crater. No small feat given Tanzanian roads and keeping an eye out for wildlife. Which brings me to my last point- the experience. I had a rich and full adventure! Good food, exposure to the culture, and spotting wildlife. The safari itself was the star of the show- I saw every wild animal on this list up close and across the landscape. I am walking away with some great memories, beautiful photos, and new friends.

An incredible experience
5/5

We booked a safari with Sustainable Safari Tours in August 2025, which proved to be an unforgettable experience at a competitive price. It suited our preferences in terms of accommodation (we loved sleeping in our tents surrounded by animals and nature) and our budget. We drove through the Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Game Parks, enjoying the beautiful scenery and the different contrasts. On our adventure we were accompanied by our driver Joshua and our cook John, both of whom were the perfect company to make the days even more enjoyable. Joshua, who is also the owner of the agency, is an excellent driver and went out of his way to try and see as many animals as possible, giving us amazing moments such as seeing a pride of lions, a leopard in the tree and a cheetah with its cubs. In addition, during the long drives between parks we had several discussions about our different cultures, experiences and points of view, which proved to be very enriching and a great learning experience. Joshua not only proved to be a great professional, but also a great person. We highly recommend him and will always be grateful for his treatment. Asante sana!

An Unforgettable Safari Experience!"

I recently had the pleasure of embarking on a safari organized by Sustainable Safari Tours, and it was truly the adventure of a lifetime! From the moment we arrived, everything was meticulously planned and executed. Joshua, the founder of the company, personally guided us throughout our journey, and his knowledge, passion, and attention to detail made the entire experience even more special.

Our journey took us through some of Tanzania’s most iconic landscapes — Tarangire, Lake Manyara, the Southern Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater. Each destination was breathtaking in its own way, and we were lucky to witness an incredible array of wildlife. The lodgings were comfortable and eco-friendly, perfectly in line with the company’s commitment to sustainability, and provided a perfect blend of comfort and nature.

Joshua’s insight into the wildlife, local cultures, and conservation efforts made our trip educational and inspiring. It’s clear that Sustainable Safari Tours prioritizes responsible tourism, which made us feel good knowing that our trip was helping to protect the very places we were visiting.

I can’t recommend this company enough for anyone looking to experience an authentic, sustainable, and extraordinary safari. Thank you, Joshua and the team, for creating memories that will last a lifetime!

Dream trip! Dedicated attention, knowledgeable nature and park guide, light travel footprint
5/5

I am so happy to have chosen Sustainable Safari Tours for my trip to the calving migration season in Tanzania. I did a lot of research and spoke to Joshua and others before deciding on who to go with and where and budget. I went to the Southern Serengeti and saw the most incredible wildlife, so many babies, such proximity, stayed in an amazing camp that migrates like the animals. I started in Tarangire also overnighted in a beautiful camp with a huge Baobab tree and overlooking Lake Manyara, and ended in Ngorongoro crater - what you imagined animals in Africa were like in your dreams as a child.
Joshua answered all of my questions, on animals, on best views, on what I could afford and should keep in because was unique and were I could make things work budget wise.
As a solo female traveller trust was paramount, as was transparency, and I got this from Joshua - who also has the direct feedback from the ground as he is founder and also is a guide. So I wasnt working just with a central office and cut/paste offers. Being in the 4WD, it was comfortable to both relax and talk in the drives in the parks and to the parks, and learn about the history of the Masai, about each mammal, each bird, tree, plant. The commitment to local communities and environment is obvious. This is a true passion of the company. I was very happy with the lodgings Joshua selected in the parks.
10 out of 10!

Incredible 5-Day Safari Experience with Sustainable Safari Tours
5/5

I had the pleasure of booking a 5-day safari with Sustainable Safari Tours, and it was an unforgettable adventure! From start to finish, everything was organized impeccably. Our guide, Joshua, who is also the founder of the company, was outstanding. He was not only highly knowledgeable about the wildlife and ecosystems but also passionate about conservation and sustainability, which made the trip even more meaningful.

We opted for a camping safari to truly immerse ourselves in nature, and it was everything we hoped for. The campsites, of one of them being on the rim of NgoroNgoro crater, held the most incredible views. The experience of being so close to nature, with the sounds of the wild surrounding us, was absolutely incredible. Besides the view I was pleasantly surprised about the campsites we resided at. They
were well equipped and even the cleanliness of the washroom was top-notch to be honest.

The trip took us to some of the most iconic destinations: Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro. Each park offered its own unique landscapes and wildlife encounters. Joshua made sure we were in the right spots at the right times, and we saw an abundance of animals, including the "Big Five."
The 'cats' we witnessed during the time at Serengeti is something I will never forget and made this experience unique in every way.

Sustainable Safari Tours is truly committed to offering an authentic and environmentally responsible safari experience. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a personalized, sustainable, and immersive safari experience.

Thank you, Joshua, and the entire team for making this trip so special!
