Five star experience
5/5

From planning months ago, Daniel was so helpful and quick to respond. I felt confident that he would take care of me the best he could. From arrival to Lalibela airport to drop off back at Lalibela airport, the experience was wonderful. The information about the history of the churches was precise without overbaring, so I feel like I could enjoy the sights and yet have enough information to understand. Going to the Sunday morning mass was more than expected. Growing up with church myself, I can definitely admire that mass. Daniel also gave me some alone time to walk around a little just to have a solo experience that I crave. Absolutely thankful for Daniel's care. I hope Daniel will help me with other experience for different parts of Ethiopia. He also arranged a half day tour for Addis Ababa for me.

Unforgettable experience in Lalibela
5/5

I highly recommend Dan as a guide for visiting Lalibela! My partner and I spent three days exploring this incredible place with him, and it was an unforgettable experience.

From the moment we met him, we felt completely safe and well-cared for. Since Dan lives locally and knows the terrain inside out, his expertise was evident in every step of our journey. His professionalism shone through in the way he naturally adjusted his pace to match ours, making even the hike up the mountain feel pleasant despite the altitude.

He guided us through the fascinating tunnels that connect the different churches and shared his deep knowledge of the site at every turn. What made the experience truly special, however, was his personal connection to Lalibela. Learning that one of his relatives is actually a priest at one of the incredible rock-hewn churches added a unique and emotional layer to our visit. An unforgettable experience!

Fantastic 2 day Lalibela tour
5/5

The experience was fantastic. Daniel was born and raised in Lalibela and knows every corner and every church perfectly; they're all incredible. Lalibela is a special place, culturally and historically very interesting. On our hike through the mountains, we got a glimpse of rural life and fantastic views of Lalibela, ending at the Ashton Maryam Monastery. Thank you so much, Daniel, for your kindness.

Wonderful guide
5/5

Daniel organized a five-day tour of Lalibela and the Danakil region for us, including ground transportation from Lalibela to Semera. A very knowledgeable and well-organized guide, he gave us an exceptional half-day tour of Lalibela's churches, skipping nothing and explaining the unique features of each church. Even the Danakil region tour (on which he didn't accompany us) was perfect. He was very helpful even when he wasn't with us, always making sure everything was going smoothly. Highly recommended!

Flexible and easy to organize
5/5

We booked a 2-day trip to Lalibela with Daniel and had a very good experience overall.

We were a group of 7 (including children), and he was flexible in adapting the itinerary to fit our schedule and interests. We initially found him through Civitatis, but decided to book directly in order to customize the trip.

Communication was clear and easy via WhatsApp, in English. During the tour, we were also accompanied by Solomon, who speaks Spanish, which made things more comfortable for our group.

We stayed at Sora Lodge Lalibela, which was a good choice — comfortable, clean, and with great views.

The itinerary was flexible and allowed for a few extra stops, like visiting the local market and taking photos, which the kids especially enjoyed.

Overall, everything worked smoothly and as expected. I would recommend Daniel if you’re looking for a flexible and straightforward way to visit Lalibela.

The Best Way to Experience Lalibela: A Truly Local Expert
5/5

Visiting a UNESCO World Heritage Site is always a memorable experience, but it becomes truly exceptional when you explore it with a knowledgeable local guide. That is exactly what Daniel offers.

Daniel is a true expert on Lalibela. He knows every corner of the rock-hewn churches in both church clusters, and his reputation is such that the priests greet him by name wherever he goes. In fact, his connection to Lalibela goes beyond professional expertise—he grew up here and, as a child, even played hide-and-seek inside one of the largest churches.

Getting around Lalibela on your own is not as straightforward as it may seem. Local transportation is designed primarily for residents, and moving between the airport and the different churches can be challenging for visitors. Having someone waiting for you at the airport, organizing all the logistics, and guiding you through each church with rich historical, cultural, and religious explanations makes an enormous difference.

If you are making the journey to one of the world's most extraordinary heritage sites, investing in an experienced local guide like Daniel is one of the best decisions you can make. His knowledge, personal connections, and lifelong familiarity with Lalibela transform a visit into an unforgettable experience.
