Maasai Mara National Reserve spans about 1,792 km² plus 500 km² in conservancies, at 1,850 m elevation. Established in 1961, it lies 280 km from Nairobi and features bushy savannas, rolling hills, and rivers flowing into Lake Victoria. The Mara River, famed for crocodiles, hosts the annual wildebeest migration. Sharing plains with Tanzania’s Serengeti, the reserve is home to the Maasai community and diverse wildlife including lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and gazelles.
