Tanzania Honeymoon Safaris
Tanzania is the perfect country for a honeymoon safari. The well-established tourism industry is used to catering for all kinds of special occasions, including honeymoons. Service is almost invariably personable, and you’ll be made to feel at home wherever you go. Many lodges have magnificent settings, and are ideal for a romantic holiday. Newlyweds can enjoy active days getting close to nature and seeing wildlife. But there are also romantic touches. Sundowner drinks while watching the deep-red African sunset, candlelit dinners in the bush, or listening to the birds serenading a new day at dawn. I can’t think of a better way to start your married life together than sharing the very special moments a safari always offers.

5 Questions About Tanzania Honeymoon Safaris

Is a Tanzanian safari suitable for a honeymoon?
“Yes, a Tanzanian safari is most definitely suitable for a honeymoon. A honeymoon doesn’t need to be a specific type of trip. It should be the kind of holiday you want to share with the person you love. Has going on a safari been a longtime dream for you? Why not combine a once-in-a-lifetime trip with one of the most important events of your life, your wedding? Many of the lodges offer rustic luxury with impeccable service and great food; perfect to wind down after a busy day in the bush. A Tanzanian honeymoon safari is easily tagged onto a beach holiday, too (or the other way around). So, if you need some real relaxation after the stressful build-up of the wedding, this can be arranged as well. Great beach add-on destinations in Tanzania for honeymoon couples include Zanzibar Island and lesser-known Mafia and Pemba Islands.”
1Which lodges in Tanzania are recommended for a honeymoon?
“All Tanzanian lodges will make an effort to make your honeymoon special, but it’s the smaller and more exclusive lodges that usually go the extra mile, so these are recommended. They already give more personalized service, so making special arrangements for a honeymoon couple is just an extension of what they are used to doing. Tanzanians love to spoil you when you least expect it. Just go with the flow and don’t ask too many questions; you don’t want to uncover an elaborate surprise. Tanzania is a popular honeymoon destination. The African bush, with its raw beauty, is the perfect romantic environment for outdoorsy newlyweds. Many of Africa’s most-stunning lodges are in Tanzania. Some have lavish suites with magnificent views, making them perfect to spend precious time together. Not surprisingly, many Tanzanian safari lodges cater specifically to honeymoon couples. You might be spoiled with a honeymoon suite, a private dinner under the stars, and/or a spa treatment for two.”
2Are there special honeymoon packages in Tanzania?
“There are many special honeymoon packages in Tanzania. Operators will put these tours together using their knowledge of the lodges and parks to specifically cater to honeymoon couples. Every lodge is chosen carefully. It might have an amazing view, a special honeymoon suite, an infinity pool, or a private plunge pool. The setting should be romantic and the service personable. You’ll get a lot of private time; maybe a breakfast on your deck or a special candlelit dinner. Most honeymoon packages will combine a safari with some romantic relaxation on one of Zanzibar’s legendary beaches. Here, you can take long walks on the beach, sail in traditional dhows (traditional sailing vessels), and eat lots of seafood and fresh fruit. You can also swim in warm water, and spend time together without the distractions of everyday life.”
3How many days are ideal for a Tanzanian honeymoon safari?
“At least 8 to 10 days are ideal for a Tanzanian honeymoon safari. Getting married can be quite hectic. Preparing a wedding involves a long list of decisions: the venue, the cake, the dress, the guest list… When planning a honeymoon, it’s best to leave it all in the capable hands of a reputable operator, and not get too bogged down in the decision-making and choices. A honeymoon should allow you to unwind and spend time together. The Tanzanian parks are perfect for this. Nature has a relaxing influence on people. However, a safari itinerary can be jam-packed. Never try to cram too much into any given day. Make sure you have some time to relax and enjoy the beautiful lodges and surroundings, as well as the game drives. For this reason, it makes sense to ensure you have a few extra days. You’ll be able to have some free time on an 8- to 10-day safari, and longer is even better.”
4Will we get some alone time on our honeymoon trip?
“Even though a Tanzanian safari is quite an active holiday, you should definitely get some alone time on a honeymoon. I would recommend booking a private safari. Aside from the fact that you’ll spend more time alone together, your trip will be more flexible too. Most safaris offer the option of daily morning and afternoon game drives, but when you’re based at one lodge for a few days, don’t be shy to skip the odd game drive. The lodges are often in magnificent locations, perhaps overlooking a river or a waterhole. Animals may come past, or there might be small animals like hyrax or monkeys in the lodge grounds. So long as it doesn’t interfere with days when you move between lodges, take the occasional morning off. Sleep in, have a private breakfast, and spend some time together on your balcony.”

I recommend this adventure. It was amazing. We booked only one day and don’t get me wrong it was enough. But if I knew how unique it was I would have booked more days. Strongly recommend it, worth every penny. 💙
