Zinave National Park has a hot, tropical climate with a distinct Wet and Dry season. The Dry season, from May to October, offers the most comfortable travel conditions. It is cooler and less humid, and the best wildlife-viewing months (July to October) fall within this period.

Dry Season May to October – Winter

The Dry season is the best time of year for wildlife viewing with animal sightings getting better as the bush thins out. The days are warm to hot, but the nights are cool.

  • May – The beginning of the Dry season. It has stopped raining, but the bush is still lush.
  • June, July & August – These are the coolest months. Daytime temperatures are around 26°C/79°F. It cools down considerably at night with average temperatures of 13°C/55°F. It hardly ever rains and the bush is drying out.
  • September & October – It is warming up quickly, with October’s average daytime temperature hovering around 32°C/90°F. Peak temperatures are much higher. Early mornings are pleasant with temperatures of about 18°C/64°F.

Wet Season November to April – Summer

The heat and humidity are extreme in the Wet season, but afternoon thundershowers often bring relief. Roads might deteriorate due to heavy rain.

  • November – Conditions are uncomfortably hot and humid during November so it’s a relief when the rains start. The bush looks parched and the average daytime temperature usually hovers around 33°C/91°F.
  • December, January & February – This is the wettest time of the year, although it rarely rains all day. Daytime temperatures average 34°C/93°F, while nighttime temperatures average 19°C/66°F. Thunderstorms are common in the afternoon.
  • March & April – The rain is easing off in April. This is a beautiful time of the year with lush landscapes, but the roads might be in bad condition.
