South Africa Map
Amakhala Game Reserve lies in the Eastern Cape province, 75km/47mi northeast of its largest city Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth).
Most visitors to South Africa arrive at Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) or at Cape Town International Airport (CPT). Both are connected by regular flights to Gqeberha’s Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport (PLZ), from where you can (car rental is available) or arrange a road transfer to Amakhala. The drive takes up to 1 hour*.
Amakhala can also be added to a tour or self-drive trip from Cape Town to Gqeberha via the scenic Garden Route. The most direct route is 810km/503mi and takes at least 10 hours, but it’s more normal – and enjoyable – to break it up over several days.
*Driving times are only a rough indication. You should always consider the possibility of significant delays.
