Amakhala game reserve is set in beautiful surroundings. We had four game drives where we saw many of the big 5 animals. We particularly enjoyed seeing a lioness with her cubs. A highlight of our safari was a bush picnic as the sun was setting over the reserve. Highly recommended... particularly as there are very few other vehicles around

We stayed at leeuwenbosch. The owners chatted to us every day, the staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. We felt at home and part of the family! Our ranger was an endless fountain of knowledge and fabulous with the children. We saw the big five and so much more. The weather was perfect. the food was lovely, my husband gained quite a bit on weight !! We stayed in the old colonial house which was lovely and made you feel like you wanted to drink iced tea on the veranda for ever! For us as a family the house was perfect and our private terrace gave us a place to sit whilst the children played in the shade. We had a look around shearers lodge, the finish is beautiful and would really work well for a more romantic stay. On our stay I realised that Africa is very green in places and a truly beautiful place

I stayed at Amakhala for 4 days in March, 2010. It was pretty hot, but the game drives were quite comfortable (the "Landis" have canopies on them). The guides were very knowledgeable and loved teaching the guests about each of the animals (plants, too). Each drive included a nice little 'snack break' where we'd get out of the vehicle, stretch our legs, have a drink and some snacks...and there was always a nice view.
The amenities were great; the staff were helpful, and there was plenty of privacy.
There are certainly larger parks and reserves, but we never felt restricted here. There was always a rush of excitement while looking for the animals, especially the lions.
It was a great experience that I'll never forget. I'm proud to say that a few of my photos were used on this site, too!

Hi,
Myself and my wife stayed here on our honeymoon. It is one of the smaller reserves but comes has all the animals and includes the big 5.
We had a amazing experience and would recomend it to friends, the staff are very knowledgable and helpful. They know the reserve wll and the pattern of the animals are so there is not too much trekking about. We had some really special moments with the lions, walking a couple of feet behind us.
The accomodation is lovely very colonial (leeuwenbosch) and the food is great.
There's a nice pool for relaxing and unwinding after a hard day on the reserve.

Completing a conservation and immoblization medicine course through Brothers Safaris at Amakhala Game Reserve was a truly awesome experience. Intimate experiences with cheetahs, black rhinos and zebras were plentiful. Highly recommended experience!

Good variety of landscapes in a relatively small park with enough wildlife species in small herds/groups. Enough to see for three days - six game drives. The reserve needs the active search spirit as the accidentation hides the wildlife. We enjoyed the wonderful ranger Andre for his perseverence that made us all eager to be the one to spot a 'prey', as we all did during day or night. We enjoyed the cosy setting of Bukela lodge. Unfortunately we did not get to visit the finding site of a dinosaur skeleton.
